New Board Guides?

I had a good point though didn't I, the threads I linked to all should have been closed yet were allowed to stay open for days on end, and they were all very inappropriate discussions. Nobody has addressed the issue of what should be done about it, a board needs board guides and at the moment we dont have them. There is one nomination above, im sure if you actually ASKED in the Gambling sub forum people would offer.
At the moment with all due respect the current lot are just not up to the task.0 -

Who exactly encourages people to commit fraud?
If people are breaking the forum rules, then it the bloody triangle that is on every post. This really p!sses me off. People like you moan about these things but you never do anything about it. You expect the volunteers who don't get paid and have jobs and lives of their own to clean up everyone elses !!!!!!. What's so special about you and your like to get off your @rses and get your hands dirty?
Where money is involved, so is greed. People will always push the boundaries as to what is accepted and allowed on the board. If you notice something, report it. How difficult can it be? :rolleyes:0 -

As for biting the hand that feeds you, well that just speaks volumes about the sort of person you are.0 -

I pointed out the ones which encourage fraud - you knwo they stuff I mean - and the abuse team are takng it seriously. Im not going to spell stuff out on here though. If you think the board is properly moderated nowadays you are crazy - its full of risky offers, fraud talk, ramping and spam, and you know it is.
Right, so what you're saying is that people break the rules, you report it, and it gets removed? Hence the system works. :undecided
You also say the abuse team are taking it seriously. Yet you accuse this site of actively encouraging fraud. :undecided
I think my friend, that you are the one who is crazy.0 -

like i say, the press are taking an interest now.
TV star debt expert + person ruined by gambling on MSE board tip+ a bit of fraud = good story.
this will be my last post on the matter, if things remain i expect to be quoting it back to you in a few weeks time.
No the press aren't taking an interest. If they did they would have years ago. Your 'friend' is humouring you.
Hopefully it will be your last post full stop. I'm hoping you get banned.0 -
I don't agree with many of the posts here at all. I don't think the BGs are being treated fairly by their detractors here, but I don't believe that all is rosy, either.
I think there should be no disrespect at all to our board guides misskool and jessicamb; I'm aware that they dedicate a huge amount of their own time as volunteers on MSE, and I say thank-you for it, I think it is an understatement to say that GIOL must be one the more demanding boards on MSE.
I've looked at the Board Guide Role Description sticky on this board, and my biggest concerns about GIOL seem to be convered by the 'contentious threads' part of the role. It's unclear to me whether BGs should be entering the discussion to calm things down (my preference as the first approach) or locking or deleting things - perhaps it's left to the discretion/preference of the individual BG, I don't know, but it's the 'contentious thread' issue which is the one which is making me feel I should stick my oar in. Things have erupted, sometimes in quite bizarre ways, and are allowed to continue unfettered for some time. However, this isn't purely a board guide thing; the community, if we care about it, could and should be working together much, much more to deal with trolling, deliberate baiting and troublemaking. I tried once, got absolutely zero backup from the regulars (in fact most were nowhere to be seen), and of course one of the trolls responded by turning and slinging mud at me. My suggestion; work together, back the BGs up publically when they are doing their voluntary role for the benefit of us all, and things will improve. In fact, in a 'cleaned up' GIOL, there could be less BG work to do.
I think that calling for some (2 or even 3) deputies to help misskool and jessicamb could make a big difference, but only if the rest of us are prepared to change and back them up.0 -

Hi everyone
We're not taking on new board guides at the moment.
But also, just a reminder that board guides don't deal with abuse, illegal discussions, fraud etc anyway, that's the job of the paid forum team (abuse@ moneysavingexpert.com), so please don't expect them to do that.
That means if discussions you feel shouldn't be on the board are still on there, it's because either they've not been reported to the forum team so it's not aware or that the team has decided they're ok to be there.
Thanks!

Thanks, Andrea,
Any reason why new volunteers couldn't be called for? I don't understand!0 -
Hi CountryLad
It's because we're happy with the number we have at the moment.
