I bought one last year ( can't remember the type) which said it was specifically for containers as it was more compact, and one was just right for quite a big pot. The nice thing about it was that the courgettes grew up the stem, instead of trailing along the ground which made it ideal for my miniscule patio.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.
  • Thank you both. I'm a complete beginner at growing vegetables so any help is always gratefully received. I'm ready with the hosepipe (its a good job I'm not on a meter!).

You're not doing so bad for a "complete beginner" - at least you managed to get your seeds to grow - mine have been in their pots for about 6 weeks, with nothing to show for it. Am about to give them a decent burial!

Courgette seeds should be up in about 3-5 days so your seed is probably fit for the bin if you haven't seen them yet! Are you sure a mouse hasn't got them? It happened to me last year till we caught the b*gger!
    3 kids(DS1 6 Nov, DS2 8 Feb, DS3 24 Dec) a hubby and two cats - I love to save every penny I can!

Not too late to sow more. The main problem, if mice have been eliminated, is usually rotting caused by overwatering and/or too low a temperature....or of course naff seed.

I have been given some very small cabbage plants but won't have my brassica cage ready for a week or two.

I'm not sure what type of cabbages they are all I know is that they were from the B&Q Organic salad range.

Will they be okay if I pot them up into biggish pots and then transplant them when I have the cage ready? I've never grown cabbage before so I'm not too sure how well they cope with being moved about.

Morning folks ,this is a query for my DD as my garden is a patio plus pots as I can't bend like I used to
She has decided to grow a couple of pumpkins for her boys in October Her garden isn't very large, about 45ft x16ft and she has four noisy boisterous lads plus two dogs .Can she grow them in large pots ( she does have a good sized bit of decking that she can put pots onto) or do they have to go into the ground, and whats the best fertiliser to help them grow big.:D

I seem to remember Caroline Quinn? in grow your own veg said you can grow them in pots, though they do trail - just feed them veg food and water regularly. They do need fairly large pots though I seem to remember.
