Try mange tout by eating all the pod and peas you get more quicker! Yum!
Also try Nastutiums, the leaves taste like watercress and fit a barm cake well for sandwichesYou can eat the flowers too. They're ok and look great in salads.

should offer some helpful hints on growing veg in containers0 -
This is my first year doing veg in containers, I have planted runner beans, which I am quite impressed with already they are shooting up We love courgettes, which can be expensive so I have planted those, along with tomatoes, peppers, chilli's, lettuce, cucumbers, potatoes and spring onions, small beets and radishes. I have planted the radishes in beside the tomatoes, the courgettes in with cucumbers, red peppers and green peppers in the same planter too. I cant wait to start using them , along with potatoes in a grow bag. Hope this gives you some ideas. Good luck!!!Every days a School day!0

so i can safely sown peas and beans now outside with no problems? Do i need to cover the pot to keep the frost out?0
-
No, they need to be sowed indoors for now. Traditionally the frost risk has passed by the second week in May, and there is meant to be a cold snap this weekend.0

Early peas could go in now, broad beans as well
Depends where you live of course, southern UK no problems, arctic tundra hang on a bit
Runner beans hang on a bit, I will be sowing mine indoors any time in the next week or two [I'm Hampshire]Eight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -
suzybloo - If your runners and other items are outside watch out for frost, most of those you mentioned are tender & will die if frosted
I lost all my runners by a late frost in April, it happens & I'm in Hampshire
Or be prepared to get them indoors or near a house wall & covered sharpishEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -

Hi,
I would like to plant some veg in growbags this year, tomatoes etc. When is it safe to plant them outdoors? I am worried about frost.
Thanks

I won't sow mine yet - I am South Midlands. I would if I had room in the greenhouse but I don't!
Anyway, remember that beans are up in five days so sowing a bit later shouldn't affect the season.3 kids(DS1 6 Nov, DS2 8 Feb, DS3 24 Dec) a hubby and two cats - I love to save every penny I can!
