Is it possible to grow green beans and broad beans in containers?
I tried in the ground last year but 8 plants produced less than 1 kilo of beans. I was bought some potato bags and was hoping to put a couple of bean plants in one. Any advise please0 -
You can buy dwarf green beans seeds that would grow in growbags but there's no reason why you can't sow a few climbing ones. Last year was the worst possible weather for beans so you were not alone in having a poor harvest. Broad beans tend to be much larger plants and are better off in the ground.0

Someone I know grows climbing beans in pots, as all vegetables in pots they have to be kept well watered and hers never do as well as mine which are planted in the ground.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0

Well have read this with interest - am now loving gardening since we moved out our flat! Posted a Want on Freecycle for pots etc so fingers crossed...
Am planning on starting by sowing some rocket, spinach, coriander and broad beans outside in containers tomorrow (weather permitting!!) , also potting sunflowers, sweet peas inside woo!! Am very excited! Any tips / advice etc? have got compost and plant food so am just going to give it a go. As you may gues I am a total newbie to this!
I also have some potted spring flowers - want to transfer these to bigger pots outside - does this sound OK?
Hmm - any help gratefully appreciated... then on to my free gardeners world seeds next week!DFW Nerd #1310 -
I know this sounds daft but I'd love to try growing my own veg but I live in the inner city and don't have a garden. I do work at a garden centre so getting any resources needed shouldn't be an issue I just need to work out if garden free gardening is possible and if so what could I plausibly grow in my home?0

Hi GlasweJen and welcome to the Forum.
If you don't have any garden at all then you could face problems. Is there an area where allotments are for rent?.. or do you have a friend or relative who has a garden but isn't into gardening? Do you have any sort of back yard that might be possible to do something with? Another question, do you have room for a very small greenhouse?
I wish you luck, but any more info would be handy. Course you can, you can plausibly grow anything inside in pots, well almost anything. What you need is light, the bigger the windows the better, you can get pots, seeds and compost from work, so its easy!
Search for growing in pots threads on this thread, I think there is a sticky as well.
There doesn't seem to be a link on the sticky for any container gardening, so I found this thread for you.
