Maybe a bit touchy considering the recent press but medical trials pay well.

I am surprised that anyone would advise someone in your position to go for matched betting. They say it is not gambling. Ask yourself - are these companies out there to give you money or take money from you? My advice would be 'steer clear'.

Do you have the first idea how matched betting works?

The companies out there are providing incentives designed to draw mug betters into their sites. Mug betters will provide them with profit. To do this they give free bets. Matched betting is a mathematically certain method to ensure that that free money becomes your money. It doesn't involve any betting or gambling. It uses gambling websites.

I've made £900 of straight profit since the end of January from matched betting. It's been a steady run of £10, £15 or £25 increments with no gambling involved.

Either way, don't take my word for it, go and read up on the "gambling loopholes" part of this website.

  • My friend who works for a major highstreet bookmakers does this a lot, and he certainly does make a bit of money here and there from it. My issue is the number of credit card details he needs to do this, plus, the amount of tedious time he spends on the gambling sites.

Personally, I can make a 400 pounds website on a spare sunday; I prefer my way of earning extra cash.

So, how to earn an extra 50 quid a week for the next 5 months... you won't unless you get a £1.50 an hour payrise; £1100 is nothing in terms of your overall final student debt, concentrate on enjoying your time off outside of your job and maybe think of ways to earn some money whilst at Uni.

That was my point tomstickland. As you say "The companies out there are providing incentives designed to draw mug betters into their sites. Mug betters will provide them with profit". Can gizmoleeds be 100% certain he will not become one of those profit generating mug betters?

That's not what you said originally. You said:

You seem to be infering that because gambling companies are out to make money then the OP would be taking a risk where he was most likely to lose money.

The fact that gambling companies are out there to make money doesn't mean that you can't make money out of them. That's the whole idea of MATCHED lay betting. The two outcomes are matched for a guaranteed profit.

Yes, there is a risk that some vulnerable people could find themselves drawn into the world of mug betting. Most people quickly see how futile mug betting is and hence why the popularity of matched betting on MSE.

  • I've earnt money by: finding people who want websites, writing a contract (important! define the scope of the project, what's out of scope and at what points you'll be paid for the work) making it, them being happy and then paying me.

I'm an IT professional anyway, but not doing websites. I can do (big breath) HTML, Javascript, CSS, PHP, mySQL -the basic 'minimal' set for modern web design. I also hope i've got an eye for colour and a sense of design plus I have an interest in UI design and website usability.

I don't have time to make websites on the side very often, its been 6 months since the last one (although it was 400 quid in one day). I've had work in the past from places i've worked, friends of the family and I also have a contact who owns a web-hosting firm. I'm sure i could get regular 'work on the side' but I don't have time, my proper job involves far too many hours anyway

EDIT: I decided to add my URL to my profile. I'm not looking for work from it though
