    you need to do this bit from the Xp disk

    5) COPY X:\I386\NTLDR C:\
    6) COPY X:\I386\NTDETECT.COM C:\

    (X is the letter of your CD-Rom drive)

    Thought the NTLDR thing meant something to me.You had put it in an earlier post.

    Sorry but my brains awash with all this techie info, and i am blonde. ;)

    used it and got a PC working beofre that would not boot so I have tried it :)

    you need to boot from the Xp CD and enter the "Recovery Console"

    From the Setup CD-ROM

    Insert the Setup compact disc (CD) and restart the computer. If prompted, select any options required to boot from the CD.

    When the text-based part of Setup begins, follow the prompts; choose the repair or recover option by pressing R.
    If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot system, choose the installation that you need to access from the Recovery Console.

    When prompted, type the Administrator password (this is blank by default so just hit enter).

    At the system prompt, type the commands above in my previos post to copy yhe files over from the disk to the hard disk.
