RAC No refund Rip off.

The OP hasn't even bothered to check back and reply to their original thread. The only benefit from a thread like this is it highlights to us all to read the T&C's before taking out any annual (or longer) type subscription/membership.
As it being a rip off I don't think so. If they had a cancellation policy after the 14 day period then the price would have to rise for all of those with the sense to read the T&C's.
This is another example of lowering the bar to accomodate the lowest common denominator.0 -
I think his choice of heading was unfortunate !! but he was paying for a service just like you car insurance or road tax( if you sold your car would you expect to get a refund of car tax for the remaining months not used) and presumed that if he did not use the service for a full year he would get refunded for the months remaining plus an additional service charge for the administration .
Just because it is wrote into the terms of the policy does not make it right !! and as long as people defend companies doing this it will continue0 -

No, I think you are wrong, as long as people sign up to these contracts, it will continue.
If they cannot be bothered to read them first, that is their problem.0 -

Am seeing a big old contradiction in the above statement!Gone ... or have I?0 -

I switched due to the RAC call out times.
Car dropped a lot of oil a while back "oh drive it back, it's still above the minimum, I'll point out if it loses more".
Mrs broke down on the motorway, no AA patrol came out, just a tow truck who left the car on the drive and went. Never heard back from them about how to get it fixed. "It's got no water" "Strange, any idea why?" "I just tow them". Fantastic.
There's a website somewhere with AA men whining about their poor working conditions and company cutbacks.
The last time I called out the RAC they quoted me 2 hours and he was there after 20 mins.0 -

The AA, just like the RAC, only offer to repair or rescue you (or recover you if you have that extra service) at their discretion - not both
As your wife broke down on the motorway, they probably realised there was little chance of repair roadside due to the dangers involved, so they just sent the recovery vehicle. The drivers of the recovery vehicles are not usually trained mechanics."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -

So you notice your car was leaking oil, AA came out and offered to follow you home to ensure it didnt break down on the way. Sounds like a good service to me? Did you really expect them to strip the engine down to perhaps replace a gasket on the spot?

If it broke down on the motorway, then i think their objective would be to get the car off the motorway ASAP, not tinker with it whilst everyone risks getting rear ended by a juggernaut.
Dont forget they're a recovery service not a fully comprehensive warranty service - as are the RAC.0 -

No, I expected the vehicle to be recovered and not risk it losing further oil and damaging a rebuilt engine. If it broke down on the motorway, then i think their objective would be to get the car off the motorway ASAP, not tinker with it whilst everyone risks getting rear ended by a juggernaut.

I realise the priority is to get the car off the motorway, but I also expect that my cover should provide some kind of indication as to what caused the breakdown. The car was recovered over 40 miles and whilst I know they don't carry every spare part in the vans, they really should carry a Ford expansion cap, they may do but the contractor was simply sent to get the car back to our home.0 -

Neither the AA nor RAC will necessarily diagnose the fault.
What happened to the expansion tank cap? They don't just fall off or break if the vehicle is in good condition and well maintained. Fitting a replacement could have resulted in it failing again before you even left the motorway. They would need to understand why it failed in the first place before they repaired the fault.
In the event, they obviously elected to recover you instead."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100
