RAC No refund Rip off.
All,
I have just tried to get a refund of 10 months worth of membership/ breakdown cover from the RAC only to be told that they don't do refunds outside the cooling off period.
I was renewing my insurance and they refused to negotiate a better deal so I hit the comparison website and saved £80 with the AA.
I have a couple of questions:
Is this legal to be able to refuse a refund for cancelled services?
Has anyone in this position got there money back?
I just want to say don't use the RAC they were not helpful at all, I had to wait 20 minutes to be told the news above and was blamed for not reading the terms and conditions. This is a major thing I would have thought would have been highlighted.
THIS IS A RIP OFF DON'T USE THE RAC!!

...THIS IS A RIP OFF...
No it's not, it's clearly stated in their terms of membership.Your Right to Cancel
1. You are entitled to cancel your membership up to 14 working days following the date of, your membership commencement (or renewal) date, or the date you receive your Terms of Membership booklet, whichever happens later.
2. If you have not made a claim within the first 14 days we will refund the cost of your membership.
3. If you use the service within the first 14 days and decide to cancel, you will not be eligible for any refund.
4. If you cancel the membership after 14 days, no refund or credit will be applied.
5. If you do not pay for your membership promptly, we will cancel your membership.
Cancellations can be made by calling 08705 722 722 (Monday to Friday – 8.00am to 8.00pm, Saturday – 8.30am to 5.00pm), calls may be recorded and/or monitored, or by writing to RAC Motoring Services, Great Park Road, Bradley Stoke, Bristol, BS32 4ZZ."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -

So you didnt read the terms and conditions but its their fault?
How do you think any business could operate if you were able to get a full refund two months after purchase because you could get it cheaper elsewhere.
Maybe next time hit the comparison sites BEFORE you renew?0 -

I was aware of this and to be honest I do not think it is what I call fair trading !! just because it is wrote into the contract does not make it right !!
I believe they will keep the amount you have not used as a credit and allow you to use it at another time in the future but you need to get a letter saying that your subscription is suspended and how much credit you have0 -
The RAC are top chaps! They are prompt, polite and know their stuff.
The AA are busy cutting back everywhere they can on the service they provide and the service is def inferior to the RAC.
I wouldn't switch to the AA.0 -

I buy a house and then when I want to move in six month contact the seller and estate agent and say, can we do a swap for a different house, I don't like how the garden over looks next door0

I switched due to the RAC call out times.
Car dropped a lot of oil a while back "oh drive it back, it's still above the minimum, I'll point out if it loses more".
Mrs broke down on the motorway, no AA patrol came out, just a tow truck who left the car on the drive and went. Never heard back from them about how to get it fixed. "It's got no water" "Strange, any idea why?" "I just tow them". Fantastic.0 -
Its not a rip off,
I called the RAC out on a sunday a few weeks ago, they arrived within 15 minutes0
