IIRC you have 30 days after being informed of any significant change to the contract to pull out of it without penalty (the same way a lot of people have got out of mobile contracts in the past).
It should explain it somewhere in the terms and conditions of the contract somewhere, probably in 6 point arial on page 24;)
The price increase would constitute a significant change in the contract.0 -
Given your financial position, and if you are out of the contract term, why not ditch the subscription and just revert to the free Sky channels? No free lunch, and no free laptop0

The £1.00 difference does not equate to 2.5% on the VAT, or is that the Murdoch Calculation?0

Inactive, there is a price £1 increase coming now and there is another increase from January of 50p to cover the VAT increase.
Does anybody remember if the price went down with VAT as cut as I can't remember seeing a letter. Looks like Sky are trying to sneak in the other 50p without people noticing and blaming it on VAT.0 -

I'm not sure of the effect of price rises on the standard subscription fees, but I suspect the highest % increases will be on those who don't have premium services.0 -
I have a friend who signed up to sky only a couple of weeks ago. Is he going to be subjected to these prices increases as well? He has got the basic tv package, 2 MB broadband and phone line and HD package. What will the total increase come to for him?0

You dont think Murdoch will exempt anyone do you.:D
Its all in the latest small print.
Sky TV subscription and VAT changes: Packages currently £16.50-£46 a month. From 1/9/09 most prices will increase by up to £1.50 a month and due to VAT increase, from 1/1/10 Sky TV packages increase by 50p or by £1 if you have both Sky Movies & Sky Sports Packs; HD Pack & Multiroom prices increase by 25p a month.
Sky Talk: Line Rental Price will increase to £11 a month from 1/9/09.

when the vat went down, sky didn't go the route of working out the exact amount, and reduced their prices, by 25p, 50p, £1 chunks, thus leaving simple prices to work with.
So, what they are doing as of 1/1/10 is adding back on the 25p, 50p, £1, chunk to your price.
This is out of sky's control, as it is a VAT increase. nearly everything you buy will go up in price on Jan 1st.
As for the price increase, it happens every year, every september, and every year people try get out of contracts because of it. If you read the Ts&Cs it'll give you details of the clause that you're able to use to get out of a contract.0 -
hi there can someone please tell me where i can find the full terms and conditions for sky and if possible where the clause i located to get out of the contract. The reason being is that i have been with sky for 15 years and earlier this april i bought a tv from tesco and received a voucher for a free skyhd box. I eventually got this at the begining of june. But i was also entitled to 3 months free hd subscription. Which i have not recieved. I am so unhappy about the service and the way i have been treated. Any help would be greatly appriecated.0

There are more changes from Sky but you have to look carefully to spot them!
In the pamphlet that claims their internet services are about to get better a bit of reading reveals that in fact for mid range users their monthly usage allowance is about to dramatically reduce.
Of course somehow this is better.0
