Wow Troy, really good story. Got a lot of respect from you just after reading all of that.
My problem is is that although I know I'm a great public speaker (one of my stronger sides) is that I take things to heart, so if somebody says no then I just let it go. I'm not interested in sales like yourself, but definitely in recruitment. My sister (whose a recruitment consultant) says theres hardly any work and her branch was forced to close and now she's relocated to another office close by.
My whole career history has been spent working in mobile phones/telecommunications with several large companies, in their call centres and their offices. However when I go for any other type of 'outside the box' role I'm being knocked back, basically because in this day and age, if you don't have experience in the role, they can sure as hell find someone who does. Thats my biggest stumbling block! Like yourself though, I hassled a company for seven months and they've finally agreed to me going for interview next month, lets hope I don't mess this up!
Thanks though Troy, your post has inspired me to do much much more with my job search!0 -
This is how good the jobcentre is.
I was unemployed for 6 months in Wales.
Couldnt even get a job stacking shelves when i could probably survey 95% of the whole country within a 2 mm accuracy.
Moved to Sweden , 2 months later im running a whole crew moving stuff in and out of rooms in a hospital for pretty good money ( and thats including the time to get the equivalent of an NI number etc and all that crap )
And my Swedish is pretty sheeeite too!0 -
ChrisCobra - so you not getting a job is the JC's fault, is it????
Don't be such a clown.Oops!! Should I have posted this??? Some users don't think I shouldn't be offering advice due to my occupation!!!

I have a great deal of respect for lots of people on this thread but what about the 58 year old who has been in the building trade and i mean grafting, he looks about 70 because he has been a labourer all his life. He gets laid off.
Who is going to employ him to do a full 40/48 hour week when they can get a fit 30 year old who will probably do the job in two thirds of the time.
Welcome to the real world.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
my other half has had his 13 week interview thing (a little while ag) but still goes every 2 weeks. They did change his time and he saw an advisor each time though.
My experience:
First sign on told I only had 4 mins and only had to fill in 10 things.
Second sign on, lady didn't even look at my form or ask if I'd done any work just asked me to sign & I was done in seconds
Thrid sign on got same person as first time, again told to fill in only 10 things, signed my form & asked if I'd don any work and how things were going. he was training a new starter.
Hate me if you like but my thinking now is as I don't speak an Indian language I'm finding it hard to even get an interview. Doesn't help that I live east London lol
Oh the Job Centre employ too many security guards, at mine anyways. Two on the door who I show my book to, 2-3 on the desk/reception area, 2 more I show my book to who tell me the area to go to and 1 more who I give my book to who then gives it to a the person I sign on with. Plus some walking around and more on the other 2 floors.0 -

Have to agree about the security guards, when I was signing on last year, my first time.... due to public transport I got there too early, I went to walk through the door and was stopped with 'woh lady, where do you think you are going' bearing in mind I am in my 50s and had never been to a jobcentre before, I was a bit upset, explained I was going to sign on but was a bit early, was told to go away and come back, the security guard said, you have a time on your card, can't you read! I innocently asked if there was a waiting area, was told yeah, down there, she pointed to a pub nearby! Needless to say the next time I had to sign on I turned up at my appointed time, then was told off as had not left enough time to be seen at the first desk, before I was allowed to go to the upper floor...........thank god I found a job and didn't have to go again
whoever said laughter was the best medicine has clearly never tasted wine
Stopped smoking 20:30 28/09/11

I go early, they don't seem to care.0

Two things to look at here firstly, moans at too many security guards and not being allowed in if too early, firstly we need the security guards and they don't want more people in than necessary for your own protection. Some people when they aren't getting their own way prefer an audience as they think shouting louder and throwing a few chairs around will get them what they want, say you got in the way of that chair who's fault would that then be?
Contary to belief staff do care but what exactly do you expect us to do in the 4 or 5 mins we are allocated to you?
People on here moaning because they have to attend other interviews and session where help is offered so 50% want help and moan they don't get it every week 50% don't want help and are moaning they keep getting offered it every few weeks:mad:
No matter what we do we can't win. Basically I think I may as well give up

i have heard staff actually swearing and !!!!!ing about people who are waiting to sign on - is that right? You might be one of the rare ones who care but trust me, in my local job centre, they all have a massive attitude problem. i could give you a hundred examples.0
