I take it you haven't been unemployed recently and had to find a job ?There are currently thousands of vacancies across all areas of the country, it just requires a different approach to filling jobs - wasting time looking at websites isn't very pro-active and will unlikely achieve much. It's really just doing the bare minimum to be able to say "but I am looking for work". A job won't just land on your lap without any effort.
I have applied for dozens and dozens of jobs since being made redundant 6 weeks ago and I am lucky if 5% of the employers bother to reply with a "thanks but no thanks"0 -

While sticking the boot in! In any case are any of these jobs located near Edinburgh?0 -
Having had my 13 week interview a few weeks ago, have been signing on now every week (presume for 6 weeks going on previous threads).
I cannot see the point of attending every week, when all I am told is 'have to be quick today - too busy). At which point they ask if I have applied for anything in the last week (they don't make any notes of any applications I give them) and then it is a case of 'just sign there then' ,
. Whilst I appreciate I actively search for vacancies on their website daily (and about 50 other sites!), the Jobcentre have done absolutely NOTHING to help me.
What is the point of me going to sign on every week if they haven't the time to discuss vacancies etc with me.
They had a couple of new starters today - don't mean to be disrespectful in any way, but I probably can now see why I am getting nowhere in my applications for the DWP vacancies.
The job centre staff are not there to help you find a job. They just want to make sure you satisfy the criteria of claiming JSA by at the moment making sure you are looking for work and applying for jobs that do not exist.0 -

one thing that really bugs me about the job centre website is having to phone to find out how to apply for some jobs. to me that is a waste of money, both on my phone bill and for the job centre paying someone to do it. it would be much easier and quicker if they just gave the details on the website. whenever i've had to phone for a job they want to keep me on the phone on the basis of finding out if i am entitled to any more benefits. i know what im entitled to and its !!!!!! all.
Yes I find this frustrating Too ! some vacancies give the details of employers contact numbers yet others do not.0 -

My point is, there are jobs out there. Lots. You just need to understand that you won't always find exactly what you want unless you really have some unique selling points.
The farming industry currently can't get enough workers. Have you tried this? I will be happy to PM you a number of contacts.
Loads of jobs out there- yeah right! Can I come and live on your planet ?
Have you seen how many people are applying for jobs with just minimum wage or marginally better on recruitment specialist reed Website in my area.(leamington Spa)0 -

You're looking at websites as a sole way of finding a job.
In my career history I don't think I've ever got a job that was advertised - I used other methods of getting them.
I'm happy to expand if you so wish.
Please do. All I have read in your posts is that you have all the answers and secrets to help us all so please do expand!0 -

I don't think that's necessarily the case that they are just looking at websites, I just took that as an example of the amount of people applying for jobs in his area.
The problem is there is no "one size fits all" model to jobseeking as it all depends on the person and the job they are applying for. I've applied for a variety of positions in my area and although I am securing interviews, the whole waiting to hear back process is taking much longer due to the number of applicants (this is from chatting to the interviewers)
I always go by the principle is that if I send an application and get a letter back saying "no thanks" I put it down to something to do with my application, if I never get a response at all I just presume my application has not been read. I know this might not be the right way to think of it but it certainly helps me in terms of putting things into perspective and who to approach for feedback with regards to my applications.0 -
Thanks for that - I think people just get caught in the trap of feeling down, me included, and it can be quite hard to get out of that.0
