I sincerley hope that you never have to deal with depression and anxiety. While I understand what you are saying regarding the fraudulent claimants, I think there are better ways of wording it.
Many people with mental illnesses hide their symptoms, and usually even their close family may not realise there is anything wrong.
To see someone who is a claimant and asume there is nothing wrong with them is wrong.
To look at my hubby you wouldnt think he was ill but believe me when he gets depressed its very scary.
Totally agree, my DH won't claim DLA anymore, due to the attitude of others and the fact that the medical services seem to think of you as a fraudulent claimant and you are treated as such until you have sufficient evidence.
It can be a pretty rotten experience claiming DLA.
As for depression, every morning, I wake up, I say good morning to my husband and have to face being told 'I wish I didn't have to wake up', 'I just want to die' etc etc etc. DHs depression is probably due to his other health problems like mine is, I just get scared that one morning I will wake up and he won't, especially considering the medication we have in the house.0 -
thank you for your advise. i think i will see how things go i dont really want to haveto claim dla and at the moment feel i dont need it but if work do change my hours i will apply because i dont think it fair on my son if i work till 9 he will never see me and my daughter hardly gets any time with me as it it because my son is demanding. shame there is such a stigma attached to people claiming dla when people on over 50,000 get tax credits and no one bats a eye lid. they dont get as much i know i cant help but feel that if it was not for things like dla then alot of the kids with adhd would have a very poor future as a mothers love and patients is definatly needed not strangers in child care who just see it as a problem. good luck everyone x0

my daughter (18) gets dLA because she has severe ME. Filling in the form was a nightmare - definitely get some help on it - CAB is a good place to start.
Filling in the form reduced me to tears - it was horrewndous having to put down in writing how it affects her life.
Good luck!
Braces herself for the backlash from those who believe that ME doesn't exist!:jFlylady and proud of it:j0 -
My Son receives Higher Rate Care and at £270 per month this can make a tremendous difference to your life and the quality of care you give to your child.
I would advice you not to delay making your claim. Try to get in touch with a charitable organisation which deals with children with the same condition. We did that for our son via an organisation called ASBAH and our claim was approved in a week.
The form is horrendous but in the hands of people who know about DLA it seems quite straightforward. If you submit the form asap your claim is counted from the date you request an application form. If your application is delayed/queried but ultimately succeeds then you will get backdated payments. If you delay making a claim then you risk losing benefits you are entilted to.
Try visit a site called youreable.com They have a very good discussion section with alot of advice on DLA which you may find useful.
Good Luck0
