But that is what I'm trying to address. There are healthy people claiming bad backs & depression makes them incapable of work. It's quite common around here where I live. A chap lives 4 doors away from me,he gets all the benefits going, has a new car every year cos of his back then goes and digs his allottment. How he's never been reported I'll never know.
Genuine claimants have to then jump through hoops with the forms. I'm not saying all bad back claimants are not genuine, but there are people who literally take the p!ss iyswimBe happy, it's the greatest wealth0 -
Why don't you report him, Welsh?
Like you I have no time for people who "work the system", it's people like that who cause the regulations to be so stringent, and difficult for genuine people to claim.
Kerry, DLA is notoriously difficult to get, with many people being rejected on application. I would suggest you get assistance with your claim from a Welfare Rights worker or the CAB. These people know what information DLA are looking for. You see, you can explain a disability very well, particularly when you are the sole or main carer of that person. But it is how it is worded that matters. Not just with DLA but many applications for benefit contain a "novel" a great long story which is very sad but totally irrelevant to the claim, and decision makers aren't interested in that. What they are interested in is finding the information they require to either make an award or reject it. So a bit of advice is to keep to the facts of the disability and how it affects his day to day life rather than lengthy pieces of information that whilst is true, is irrelevant to the claim. In addition, as much letters of support from professional bodies that you can get your hands on. Consultants, paediatricians, occupational therapists, GP and your little one's teacher. DLA may also contact these people directly. The more information provided the better.
Now if you do get turned down (as many people are these days, in unbelievable circumstances), you have the right to appeal the decision.
You will hear a lot of these stories - people being turned down with genuine disabilities but do not let that put you off applying for it. People are preparing you for what may come, as they do seem to have "stepped up" recently with their rejections, it doesn't mean you shouldn't apply. If your son needs far more care and assistance with his mobility than other children his own age then you should claim.0 -
Know something? Its post like that make me dispare of this board recently,I wish people who had nothing constructive to say would say exactly that.....NOTHING.!
TBH coments are posted more down to fustration than spite. There is no doubt that a lot of disabled people etc need financial asistance but there is a big problem out there with people jumping on the bandwagon who don't have disablities and ailments claiming off the taxpayer.
Don't quote me on this but France and Germany have very few people/children compared to us suffering from behaviour disorders, it seems it purely a British thing..Trying to find a link here regarding a professor who researched this and found about 98% of theconfirmed diagnoses were wrong ....Will try and find the link.....Oh and I don't read the Daily Mail..............
"AsknAnswer" I have reported someone for working and claiming ,living with BF whilst claiming as a sole parent TWICE in the last 12 months and still nothing has happend......The system isn't fit for purpose im afraid.0 -

Maybe the comments are down to frustration but the frustration is being directed in completely the wrong direction.
People primarily come on here for advise, 9/10 times they receive exactly what they need but you do get the rogue element that seem to find the need to criticise people & make judgements.I'd rather regret the things I've done than regret the things I haven't done.

I wouldn't disagree with you, maybe it is directed at the wrong people, but thats what FRUSTRATION does to people.0 -
I agree with some comments about people claiming DLA when they shouldn't be but this is not the place. Start a thread in Discussion Time, you'll find lots of benefit bashing people over there
OP - good luck with your claim for DLA, it is hard to get but as long as you tell the truth and get help from CAB or welfare rights, you should be ok:heart: Think happy & you'll be happy

my daughter gets DLA for her little lad who has suspected adhd. he is too young to formally disgnose but if their behaviour interferes with normal family life, you are entitled to it.
it is not means tested, nor is it included when other benefits are assessed.
a word of advice; please dont try and fill the form in yourself. your local CAB will have someone who specialises in this type of form-filling-in and they will do it correctly. there are ways of putting things and saying things. you stand a very good chance of being refused the first time if you fill it in yourself. like i did. then had to go to the CAB anyway to help me with the appeal.
there is not reason why you shouldnt get it. if you DO get it, and you also get tax credits, your tax credits will go UP because you will get a disabiliy premium payment.
apply asap, it takes a little bit of time because they write to doctors etc.
good luck, what they pay you can really make a difference. it also gets you other stuff as well, get on to your local social services as well.0 -
Yes, DEFINITELY get someone to help you with the form. It is a total PITA.
Also, do not be surprised if you get turned down the first time, a lot of people are. You will have to appeal.
I knew someone who got this for her son who has ADHD, he was setting fire to the house etc and that was while taking ritalin (apparently he had improved on ritalin so god knows what he was like with out it, that he said, he was a lovely kid, really nice, he just had issues).0 -

Good luck with your claim,
This is the sort of post that puts many genuine people off claiming for fear of being seen as a liar or a cheat. I have a relative with pretty serious anxiety/depression that has steadily got worse over a number of years and they refuse to claim what they would be entitled to due to the added stress of worrying if someone thought they were making it up. They will not consult anyone really bar the family GP so as not to be branded a 'fake', despite being medicated and taken seriously by anyone they have seen. It is terrible to see somebody passing up on not only the financial but also the medical help they could truly benefit from through the fact that strangers opinions may make them worse than burying their head in the sand.
Off topic, so sorry to the original poster. Hope you are able to get any assistance you are entitled to for your son.0 -

Good luck with your claim,
I sincerley hope that you never have to deal with depression and anxiety. While I understand what you are saying regarding the fraudulent claimants, I think there are better ways of wording it.
Many people with mental illnesses hide their symptoms, and usually even their close family may not realise there is anything wrong.
To see someone who is a claimant and asume there is nothing wrong with them is wrong.
To look at my hubby you wouldnt think he was ill but believe me when he gets depressed its very scary.I used to suffer from lack of motivation.... now I just can't be arsed.
