DLA is disability Living allowence. A benefit that some diabled people can claim. If you also get working Tax Credit depending on what level of DLA you are awarded you MAY get more ax credit.
Its always worth appling but when you get the form make sure you get someone like CAB to help you fill them in and ensure you keep a copy of the form before sending it.
Hope this helps. Please feel free to PM me if you want0 -
Hello Kerry,
DLA is a non means tested benefit.
It is not awarded on the basis of a diagnosis, but due to the extra care your child needs compared with a same age child without the condition.
ADHD is often a difficult one to claim for, as all children require attention and supervision, you just need to prove your situation is over and above.
Medical reports will help, especially if they contain information about the problems you face rather than just a diagnosis, and as your child will spend much of their time at school, the DWP will frequently write to school to ask for what is called a 'factual report', and ask the school about care needs, what your child can manage or needs help with.
The claim pack is a complicated document, and it is always best to seek advice with filling this in. There are a number of organisations that can help. The CAB is useful, and you could speak to Welfare Rights, part of your county council.
I think to apply now, may be a little more awkward, as you have not started the medication and seen what difference that has made, it almost seems like jumping the gun a little, but that is just my personal opinion.
Regards

Actually applying now would be the right thing to do as it can take many months for DLA actually assess the situation and make a decision. ALso DLA is awarded base on the care you need wether you are getting it or not, and wether you are having good days or bad days.
If you are on WTC and you recieve DLA for your son you will be entitled to a disability emlemnt, depending what rate of DLA your son is on will depend on how much money WTC will add to your reward.0 -
he does take up a great deal of my time and i find it hard to find relatives to have him. he goes to a church club on thursday nights but they have said he may not be able to continue there if his behavior does not improve.i get constant calls from my mum and dad when im at work to askingme to talk to him.i have spoken to work counceler about it but not a great deal of support as i am not the one suffering with adhd it ismy son as he is 9 this does not make alot of sence to me. i am currently on family friendly hours as he is worse when im not there but i think that due to the resesion they will say i have to go on 530pm till9 pm and god knows what will happen then. is that the sort of thing they look at for dla0

Good luck with your claim,
Know something? Its post like that make me dispare of this board recently,I wish people who had nothing constructive to say would say exactly that.....NOTHING.!0 -
But it is constructive. There are far too many healthy people who claim DLA and it has a negative impact upon genuine claimants. I feel sorry for these genuine people who have to jump through hoops to claim what they are entitled to.Be happy, it's the greatest wealth0

I`m not getting into an argument with you about the benefits system, you may not for all I know be worth arguing with, and thats not what this board is about, but could you back up your statement with facts,or are you basing it on a quick read of the daily mail???0 -

Also if you do not have or have had anxiety or serious depression then you can not really comment either. Mental illnesses have a lot of misconceptions about them as it is and people like you do not help. They need help that 'normal/healthy' people do not need at the end of the day and that is all it comes down to.
People genuingly going through the pain/difficulties that these conditions do not need people like you judging them. I'm not saying all the people claiming for DLA are genuine but I'm sure that most are. The negative impact about DLA seems to come from people like you who do not understand the needs that come with difficulties these conditions can cause.
By the way I'm not obtaining DLA at the moment but hopefully will be once I get through with the form (which is confusing and long ) and send it off.I am a vegan woman. My OH is a lovely omni guy0
