Want to discuss the benefits system? Go to the discussion board

If you want to discuss the benefits system itself and issues around it, the appropriate place isn't here but the Discussion Board and even there, please remember courtesy and not to make it personal about anyone. This site's prime purpose it to help people with their money and I will always act to protect that.

    Thanks for your co-operation

I agree, the whole situation of handing out benefits to people with kids is stupid. And I say that as somebody with a two month old baby, I now get £20 a week child benefit + CTC randomly dump money into my account every few weeks (no idea how they work it out). And both mine + my partners income is comfortably over the national average, so really we don't need the money. Scrapping CB + CTC and increasing everybodys tax code so that low earners pay much less tax is the obvious solution, but the labour government wouldn't like low earners to believe they can support themselves.

:rotfl:You must have applied for ctc, it doesn't just get 'dumped' in your account. Glad to see you don't need the extra money but you can't really complain when you are still taking it!

Yes I agree with this....please go to DT and stop turning this thread into a discussion.
I am fed up wading through post after post of opinionated drivel!

    I've been Money Tipped!
Why should we not be entitled to tax credits i work flaming hard to keep roof over my kids heads and food in their bellies i could not do this without the help of tax credits towards childcare or would you rather i sat at home on my !!! claiming Income support for the next 18yrs ???

Ummm, let's see.... because you chose to have kids so you should be prepared to pay for them. Why shouldn't you have to work hard - that is life!
    :hello:

Sorry, I don't think this is correct. There is a 'couple' element to WTC, but it is the same as the 'lone parent' element, which presumably OP would be entitled to if she was claiming childcare.

Income thresholds are the same regardless of single or joint claims, although they vary according to whether you are claiming WTC or not.

Apologies, I was thinking of claims without children.

In my defence, it was getting late.

I have now edited my response.
