    Why is that?

A FIRA sofa technician said they were good as the furniture is all British built to high standards.

Well the one that they sent me went straight back, British made or not, it was utter junk.

I heard it crack as the delivery team took it off of the lorry, the arm had come apart from the rest of the unit, so much for " British " quality.

I've had my sofas from sofasofa - £299 each for 7 years now and they are brilliant - never had a problem with them - starting to get a little saggy but just shoved some cardboard under the cushions and they're good as new:D

Dfs are only allowed to do only minor repairs under the sales of goods act, what they describe is major work, your within your rights to reject major work.
These sofas come into the UK tightly packed in containers, because of this the padding is flat and the leather baggy.it can take weeks for the padding to recover to full thickness. In China all the leather is used of the cow, good or bad
Your furniture is it from the Croydon store?,

    I thought that too, a full re-covering to me constitutes a major repair, besides under the sale of goods act 1979 states;

"(2) Where the seller sells goods in the course of a business, there is an implied term that the goods supplied under the contract are of satisfactory quality.
(2A) For the purposes of this Act, goods are of satisfactory quality if they meet the standard that a reasonable person would regard as satisfactory, taking account of any description of the goods, the price (if relevant) and all the other relevant circumstances.
(2B) For the purposes of this Act, the quality of goods includes their state and condition and the following (among others) are in appropriate cases aspects of the quality of goods— (a)
fitness for all the purposes for which goods of the kind in question are commonly supplied,

    (b)
    appearance and finish,

    (c)
    freedom from minor defects,

    (d)
    safety, and

    (e)durability

15B. Remedies for breach of contract as respects Scotland.
    — (1) Where in a contract of sale the seller is in breach of any term of the contract (express or implied), the buyer shall be entitled— (a)
    to claim damages, and

    (b)
if the breach is material, to reject any goods delivered under the contract and treat it as repudiated.

    (2) Where a contract of sale is a consumer contract, then, for the purposes of subsection (1)(b) above, breach by the seller of any term (express or implied)— (a)
as to the quality of the goods or their fitness for a purpose,

    (b)
if the goods are, or are to be, sold by description, that the goods will correspond with the description,

    (c)
if the goods are, or are to be, sold by reference to a sample, that the bulk will correspond with the sample in quality,

shall be deemed to be a material breach.

i think that's quite clear, correct me if i'm wrong.

I am still undecided. I went back to look at both on Saturday afternoon and i still like them both. The prices are pretty much the same. Only thing i am quite cross about is FV sales pitch. I do understand the saleswoman is on commision but out right lying is wrong. I told her i loved the sofa but was still undecided on 2 x 2 seaters or a 3 seater and 1 arm chair. I said i needed to go home and measure to make sure. On leaving the store she gave me her card and told me i had to come back no later than Sunday because that is when the offer ended. That was a lie. It is still on the same offer today. So that has really annoyed me, she also said that i would need to see her and that she was working on Sunday.
The salesman in DFS was really nice. I told him the same that i needed to measure and he didn't push me he just said i needed to check and double check because i needed to make the right decision for me. I know it's all sales talk but lying does not get my vote.
But all in all it is down to which sofa is best, not who sells it to me. So i will be visiting them both again before making my final decision.

Consider this, if they are brazen enough to lie about something as trivial as the expiration of a particular sale/offer period then what else are they lying about?! However, don't be fooled by DFS' making the right decision for you pitch either, they are selling credit not furniture so, the quality of the final product comes way down on their list of priorities, and so do your rights post sale.

Please seriously reconsider buying from either retailer, particularly DFS, look for an established family run or uk based furniture store, whose priorities are the final product AND customer satisfaction.

Good advice, I ended up buying from a small local furniture manufacturer, they allowed me to go in to the factory and watch my suite being made, they would not take a penny until I had inspected the finished suite and was 100% satisfied with it, I did not pay them a penny until it had been delivered and placed in to situ.
