Another DFS nightmare story!!!!

I was just about to go to DFS and order a new sofa. But reading this i am not so sure!
I got my last sofa from them about 3 1/2 years ago. Its in awful condition now and near enough falling apart. The stitching has come undone in many places, the seats are flat as pancakes and the stain guard thing was a waste of money in my opinion. When looking for a new sofa i resisted DFS but i gave in when i saw one in there that i really liked. It is leather and is called clarion. But now i am really not sure! Where is the best place to buy a sofa? Furniture village have one i liked. Do they fair any better? I really need a new sofa a.s.a.p!0 -

Wherever you go make sure you tell the store what you expect from your sofa regarding use and wear and tear and they will happily guide you through the ranges that are suitable for you. I sold furniture for 3 years and in all that time not one person asked for suitable products, they just all went for the cheapest rubbish and then 6 months down the line were complaining that it was unsuitable. We had products that would last for as long as you, they cost more and customers just thought we were trying to rip them off and went back to the cheap stuff.
I have had my furniture now since 2001 and its as good as the day I bought it because I went for fixed foam cushions and leather. Never, never buy cotton covered hollow fibre, yes it looks nice but it will not last as long.
If you were buying a car and you had a boat to tow you would make sure that you bought something fit for purpose, such as a 4x4 with a tow bar and a diesel engine, not the cheapest Hyundai in the shop which may be very good for a single person popping to the shops and occasional long journey..
Remember you buy cheap, you buy twice. If suite A is £400 ask what the difference is with suite B at £500, what do I get for my money? Some people redecorate and change there lounge every 2 years and are happy to do so, others want to do it only when it is absolutely necessary and so will require their furniture to last longer.0 -
I am looking for foam. The first sofa i ever had was foam and it lasted brilliantly. Just the zips went, then i had kids so had to go bigger. The only reason i didn't go back to that store was it closed down. It was called Cantors. I do know the one in FV was foam filled but i am not sure about DFS because the sales lady was yabbing on so much i got fed up and left without checking! I looked online but it doesn't say. Might go back today for another look. Hopefully they will be busier so i don't get bugged too much!
In my opinion £1200 for a sofa is not a "cheap" sofa (just a 3 seater!). But i could be wrong!
I will be having another good look round though and hopefully i won't get talked into all the add ons....0 -

Omg Reading this has made me so angry! If I had been spoken to like that I would be taking the sofa back to the store and standing outside with it explaining to all customers going into the store the shoddy service I have received!
I bet that would soon make them treat you properly!
I hope you get this resolved asap!

I like the montserrat at fv. Remember recliners have moving parts and potential for faults just like anything else.

Thanks for all the replies, i thought i would have no choice but to accept the sofa (which cost £650 for a 2 seater!), however now thanks to you kind people i feel confident enough to stand my ground.
Lisa, i have a manager coming for a second inspection on monday, i'm sure he's going to fob me off, but rest assured i will be offering up your suggestion as a solution to our dispute!! i will probably wait until a nice and busy time of the day, say saturday, lunchtime!!0 -
One more tip if you must buy from DFS, make sure that the frame guarantee is 10 years, they are made in the UK, those with a lesser guarantee are usually imports, mainly from China.0
