oven sounds a bit risky to memisskool wrote:Have you actually done this? Seems really risky. I've put the hairdryer to it on low.
Everyone seems to be quoting a few days to get it working again but I'm feeling lost without a phone (yes, that is quite sad) so am thinking of taking it into the Vodafone shop tomorrow to see what they say. I can guess...
airing cupboard would be safer but it really needs an ultrasonic clean first, which is not guarenteed to work as it depends on damage already done
there are people who can do it no fix no fee (except postage)
pm me if yo want some details
vodafone will not touch it as liquid damage invalidates warrenty (and they will know it has been)0 -
The company I used to work as dried PCBs and other components in vacuum ovens at about 60 degrees c. It was found that this would eradicate moisture in most cases.
OK so surrounding plastics etc that could be damaged were usually not with the PCB, and they were vacuum ovens, not ordinary conventional or fan assisted.
If you want to do this, as I was trying to imply, as a last resort, remove all the casing and plastic bits that you can first, and obviously remove the battery and sim.
As drachcir says, an airing cupboard may work just as well and be less risky. But there is no forced ventilation in an airing cupboard, whereas there is in a fan oven. Also, an ultrasonic clean in IPA, (Isoprpene Alcohole, not Indian Pale Ale) would b a good idea. However, you do need an untrasonic cleaner for that.
