Alcohol self help thread II

I'm very familiar with the 12 step programme
Right now, I just don't think I'm ready to accept step 1 - I'm still trying to fight it on my own. Admitting that I am powerless means I won't be able to drink anymore.
I assumed everyone had trouble stopping drinking, I know now thats not true.
I don't know if I'd want to go without drink tho. I like it.Stay-at-home, attached Mummy to a 23lb 10oz, 11 month old baby boy.0 -
lewt, I really wish you didn't have that avatar:o
What are the steps? I'm curious to see if I've actually done them on my own:D
I'm also curious about christmas:eek: I think my parents will be coming, they don't do alcohol free christmas. OK I'm not going to mind some wine splashing about, we have 18 un-opened bottles;) But they usually have a lot more than that:eek:
Edited to add: not 18 bottles to drink, just a couple:rolleyes:0 -

Why?
Because it dulled all my senses, helped me hide from my insecurity, made me brave.
Also made me the biggest idiot known to man:o And woman:o And the scareiest thing, a danger to my family, the thought of which still makes me want to cry:o0 -
whats wrong with it? steps are these... i've done them ad continue to every day im happy now where as when i just stopped drinking i was'nt read dr silk worths opinon that i posted a while back it explains the 3 fold illness alcoholis have
- We admitted we were powerless over alcohol - that our lives had become unmanageable.
- Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.
- Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.
- Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.
- Admitted to God, to ourselves and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.
- Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.
- Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings.
- Made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all.
- Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.
- Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it.
- Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.
- Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to alcoholics and to practice these principles in all our affairs.
If i upset you don't stress, never forget that god aint finished with me yet.0 -

Because when I drink, I don't feel like me.
Other than that, I can't really think of a valid reason, all I know is that rather often, I get quite an overwhelming urge to drink.Stay-at-home, attached Mummy to a 23lb 10oz, 11 month old baby boy.0 -
felling good that is the mental obsision that makes you pick up the first drink all the time then once thats in your body the physical algery sets off making you drink more and more the other part of the illness is the spirtual malady which for me was why i never felt part of anything and always felt different. your liver can only take so much before it stops fixing its self.. where you from i'll take you to a meeting it really sounds like you need it.. Are you sure you familar with the steps? it's time to work them!!!1If i upset you don't stress, never forget that god aint finished with me yet.0

Morning Lewt :T
If the 12 steps are based on a belief in God then what happens to all the non believers:drool:  Timberlake Hussy Clique Member No 3  :drool:0 -
Its not 'God' as such Maria, its a high power - it can be anything.
I'm not Christian, I'm a Taoist - I believe in a power greater than myself, and thats what I put my faith it.
It can be god, allah, nature. Anything - its totally personal.
Does that make sense?Stay-at-home, attached Mummy to a 23lb 10oz, 11 month old baby boy.0 -
But, as feelinggood herself admits, she doesn't think she has a problem so unless you know you have a problem and can actually admit to it, you can't make a start at all.
No offense feelinggood but I think even you will admit to that.
oh and yes I agree Al Mac, avatar reported0
