I haven't posted here recently either, but I'm still winning the battle (for now)
I know some people are doing well and others not so well, but in the end the support for everyone else in the same boat can help us all :)

    Hi all

I also haven't posted on this thread for sometime. I want to thank Beer for having the courage to start this wonderful thread and all the incredible people who helped me so much when I finally found the strength to post on here.

It makes me incredibly sad, and also very angry, that there are people out there who have taken pleasure in trying to destroy something that has helped numerous people to confront their problems and take the first steps to trying to turn their lives around. It is completely incomprehensible to me how anyone could read the posts on this thread and not only fail to be moved by what they read but also to set out to hurt people who are doing all they can to support one another.

The saddest thing of all is that anyone reading this thread who is looking for help and support may have been deterred from posting. If you are in this position and reading this now, please, please get in touch with those extremely caring people who have put their names at the beginning of the thread. They all helped me more than I can say when I was absolutely desperate and they understand completely how you are feeling.

Thank you to all the lovely friends I have met on here. I wish you all health and happiness.

    Beer

I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Seeing the thread helped me at a time I needed it most. It gave me that final knock in the right direction.

Knowing there where others like me, and others like Mrs Mac, enduring a slow spiral into oblivion, who were willing to fight their way back to health, was the inspiration I needed.

I'm not cured, I never will be, but I know I can carry on fighting for my and my families lives.

I will never be "normal". But then I've been and seen the worst of "normal", I can live without that.

At some point I will fail, but I can pick myself up and start again. This I have learnt, I hope others have learnt it as well.

A big thank you to my friends for their support, those on the thread, those that protected the thread, those that supported behind the thread and MSE for letting the thread stay. You are all very much appreciated.

Beer, I thank you again, I wish you well, be strong.

    Al Mac

PS If you think you or a loved one have a problem, talk to someone, here or elsewhere. Getting well has to start somewhere and sometime.

It is so so sad that this has happened. I couldn't let it go without posting my personal thanks to the lovely people who have helped and supported me too. Two months ago - my life was completely different and hopeless. Through Beer's bravery and honesty in starting this thread I have found the will to turn it all around.

I have found help and support from people who I will probably never meet, but who have become close to my heart and have given unconditional love and friendship without ever judging or condemning.

I would say to anyone who has been following this thread and considering their own issues related to drink - don't ever give up - keep an open mind and you will find help in places you least expect it. Don't be afraid to reach out for it.

I have something left to give, I just never realised it:o

The above quote is from beer2006's signature, its small and pink and might not be noticed so that is why I have put it in black and bolded it as it is the very essence of this thread and its whole being.

By starting this thread beer2006 gave so much to so many people and for that I applaud you and in particular the users who have poured out their very souls for all to read. But for this thread and the support given would ac have even thought about going to AA or Al Mac for counselling, Gentlepurr for the courage to do what had to be done and susiesaver and Quickbrew for joining in. I know there are many others such as Mich and Westy for keeping things going.

There are also many people in the background who don't have an alcohol problem who have been quietly cheering everyone on and admire those users who have shown such honesty in their postings and joined me with their anger when this thread has gone through down times.

I am just back from a holiday in Florida and found myself wondering last night if ac got in that front door of AA, hope you did girl..... if not this week, the next.

And to shirl/harrie you keep plugging away too and don't stay away too long.

    Hi,

As a regular lurker on both threads, I just wanted to thank the regulars for posting their last messages. Like lots of others, I'm sure, I'd wondered what had happened to you all. I'm afraid I didn't think I could help by posting on the thread, but I have been cheering you on from the sidelines.

Good luck to you all in the future, I hope you all manage to find whatever support you need in the 'real world'.

I don't know what has happened but I do know that what this thread has meant to so very many people with so many different problems, alcohol related or not.

Beer, that first post of yours was one of the bravest things I have ever know. It set a pattern and both the old and current threads are full of love and support with more than a little pain in the mix. You started that and then you and all of the regulars built on it. Nothing and nobody can take away what was built here. It is something much deeper than words on a web page.

    Thank you Beer.
My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead :D

  • Wowwwwwwwww!

Haven't got a clue what has happened here, but from the jist of the last couple of replies, it looks like someone has tried to sabatage (sp) the boards.... Has Martin closed the thread.?

ANyway if this is the case, how can anybody be so cruel? the guys on this board offer the hand of freindship to anyone who passes....

I have not been affected by alcohol, and just popped in one night to say hello, and can't tell you the number of warm-hearted welcomes i got.
It brought a tear to my eye, and I was only saying "Hello", needless to say after that i popped in a number of times, always offered my support, shared a few mornings, waves etc... i too felt part of their family, it was such a good feeling.

If i was feeling a little !!!!!! myself about anything, had a bad day with money/kids whatever, i knew i could pop over too this board, and spend a few minutes with my friends.

    Thankyou all,

Please don't let this board close, as i say i don't know what happened, but you all have done incredibily well, and have taken/offered soo much support to each other that you should all be proud!

I hope that you are not all finishing with mse and will still be around?

    Please don't go.............................................

    Hugs, and love
    Rachel

    xx
