Right, this is my view only, just like to make that clear.

Your cousin, sounds like me, my friends love me when I've had a drink, because I get all witty and funny, so no-one has ever tried to help me or really think I have a problem. Question of image, as people on here have said before, an alcoholic (or someone with just a drink problem) is not only someone slumped in a doorway with a can of special brew, or in the case of your mother, being !!!!!! all day until she passes out.

I actually told 2 of my best friends a few years ago, I drank every night and really was an alcoholic, I had been drinking and so had they. I was told I'm not an alcoholic and they got a bit embarressed about it and talked about other people who were much worse. That was the last and first time I ever reached out for help, until this thread.

Has your cousin talked to you about it?

Pretty complicated stuff, I'm so sorry to hear of your mums illness. Only you can know your paticular situation, sounds like your birth mum is almost past help, although that doesn't mean you shouldn't try if you want to. But your cousin, if she wants help and if she admits she has a problem, maybe a better prospect.
Obviously I can't comment on your birth mother getting jealous or causing problems for your cousin or you, but if everyone in the family knows about her surely they will make allowances in their outlooks.

Had worst night wed night harrie, horrible nightmares, woke up sweating but didnt know whether it was the drink coming out or problems ive had......either way, they were horrible.
Came clean with doc on fri, he offered me temazepam 10mgs, turned him down:confused: maybe at some point but hopefully after last night it will get better....do they tend to happen even after a long time off?

Mostly concur with what beer said, kaz :) but we differ in opinions about sleeping pills ;)
I do use them on occasions.

    Hi xmaslolly,

IMHO that's the crux of the matter. Will either of them accept they have a problem and let others help  If not there's nothing you can really do :(

Welcome xmaslolly. Sorry to hear things so difficult for you just now. You must be lovely person if in spite of all you are going through you are still thinking about helping other people. I don't feel qualified to give advice as I'm fairly new on here but if you need to talk, you are always welcome here.
