Alcohol self help thread II

It seems that The Saint hasn't read any of my posts from last night or indeed Forum Manager 's post or FT1's post earlier in the thread.
So I'll say again, this thread is a support thread for anyone who is battling with alcohol or indeed their nearest and dearest. This thread has nothing to do with any other thread on MSE past or present Boots or otherwise.
If anyone has a problem with the way this has been dealt with please deal with it through the correct chanels, [Removed by Forum Team]
As FM said this morning...
This thread started and has been a hugely important and supportive place for people to find comfort in, and the way it has gone means that i now have no option but to shut it for now. A new thread can be started on the health board.
While I am very saddened to have read a lot of the posts over yesterday and today I am also very heartened to have read many posts of support for the users of this thread and as I have already said this morning if this thread helps just one user of MSE it well deserves its place on MSE.0 -
Al_Mac wrote:Hello all, my names Al Mac, I believe I'm looking for a place to drop in for a chat, with like minded people.
Got a feeling tonight will be another and the second in a row.
Hopefully this will be a nice place to meet people with similar issues.
I wont bite. Hope to see you later. If I dare:o

Hi Al
Don't let them destroy all your hard work. You have come a long way already, but if you give in again you will beat yourself up so hard that it won't actually be worth it in the long run.
Stay strong. The majority on this thread are as you described. Ignore the petty minded ones who seem to get a kick from acting like spoilt brats.

The_Saint wrote:this is not a support thread, it's a joke thread.
so report it..........sheesh, is that too hard to understand ? Why keep trying to wind people up ? why cant you just leave the thread and if the abuse team feel you are correct then they will sort it.....why do you really feel the need to try and bring trouble to the thread ?
and for the record I can see to a certain degree where you are coming from, the thread is more a chatty thread and with that it could have the other effect where people who need support feel like its a too close knit community kinda thing so will not post.0 -
The_Saint wrote:FM is quite aware of it, if he has a mind to then he can do something about it.
So then leave the people here to their thread, you have made your point. Ive also said my bit so will leave now and let these people give each other the support that they need.0 -
Actually The Saint, I have a feeling that perhaps MSE is not the site for you at all, perhaps the Motley Fool would suit better0

Being in the AA fellowship all that is asked is if you have a desire too stop drinking.Used too say honest desire but they have dropped that.Easy way too see if you have a problem is too try not drink for a few days and see if you get that desire and then try and not lift that 1st drink.Seems easy but if like me its a real hard job at first.I worked as photographer for many years and was really topped up all the time as there was always a drink for the cameraman. When I had too give that up too look after my wife I found that I then needed a drink and not just wanting one.So by not taking that 1st drink I now have just passed the 5 years sober mark and really dont miss drink at all.I still go too functions and parties but just dont drink.Folk now find if you have car with you they just dont bother even asking do you want a drink although always get a coke or mineral water. At first there is always that craving if you are alcoholic but as time passes that goes too and remember its just ODAAT0

I was on the original thread, was honest with everyone, including Elvis_Bloggs and a_k_a last night. They both chose to ignore my requests to stop or at least understand why they were doing it.
I posted tonight, I thought covering all their and The Saints concerns. I once again appear to have failed. Apologies to those who thought it was my first thread on the subject.
I don't expect people to feel sorry for me. I can and do, do that for myself. I just wanted like minded people to talk to. Endorsed by my counsellor, makes me sad.
I know of one other person who has chosen to leave this site tonight, I'm thinking of stopping on this subject myself. I will not leave MSE, as I do believe I have brought financial help to people here, I can continue to do so.
If the thread returns to its original theme, I'll happily return.
To you all I wish you continued strength, in whatever fight you are in.

PS for those that wish, I am being a drama queen.0 -
i must to an extent agree with the saint, there is nothing here to help me or my cicumstances in understanding alcoholism, there just appears to be jovial banter which puts a mockery to an illness which i'm trying to comprehend and get help with.Give blood - its free0
