That's odd. 10 year endowment also started in 1996, £50 a month, also used as a savings vehicle. 280 shares. Due to mature in July at a figure less then the premiums paid.
  • For Lady K I estimate 428 shares = £1,134.
That's made up of 11% of contributions and the basic 185 share windfall.

The gap between 1987 & 1990 is a bit of a void for us - Keep the figures coming in :) -, and it's clear that the variable rate changes dramatically between these years - so don't go and spend £1,134 this weekend on your credit card ;).

Why are we talking windfalls, Lady K? Human nature, I guess.

    Blimey. That is slightly unusual.

At least the windfall gives you the equivalent of a 2% pa return on your monthly investments.

And at least it's not maturing in April/May - or you'd have lost 95 of those shares.

I estimate the variable amount @ 5.5% of your contributions to March 2004.

Crickey! It's not much at all really compared to my predicted shortfall :( pretty disappointed with that if it ends up right :( Thankyou anyway

Am a little dissapointed i have to say. 25 year endowment taken out in 1996 premiums of £61 a month, and a miserly 232 shares. Was hoping for a bit more to be fair. Thankfully i have only ever used my endowment as a savings vehicle and never used it as a mortgage.
    This seems low chris.

Can you check & give us the start month?

I'm puzzled as to why you might have got 47 shares for the variable element when cdon got 95 for a 10 year policy starting in August 1996 paying in only £50pm.

You should be pleased, as long as your funds have been well selected.

By being outside the with profits fund, you haven't been exposed to the risks in the WP fund as management has blow £bns of capital after 2000, incurred losses of £350m in 1994 and still has to pay out expensive guarantees far into the future to some fortunate investors.

My understanding is that you will have the option to buy shares and get a 5% bonus share allocation if you hold for 12 months.

I agree, ReportInvestor - I'm not entitled to shares either, as my pension wasn't with profits, so I wasn't expecting anything. So I was pleased to find I can buy shares at a discount and get 5% bonus shares. Will have to see what sort of discount they're offering first, though.
