Little tip: Don't do what I did and open a spoof paypal email by double-clicking or using "open" etc.

I did this a few weeks back out of curiosity and now I get them on a daily basis. Through my work in direct marketing I know that there are tools whereby bulk email senders (whether spammers or not) can track the "open rate" of emails. Once you open a spam email - regardless of what you do with it i.e. delete, respond etc etc - your address will go on a "mug list" as someone who is inclined to open bulk/spam-type emails and it will get sold on.

You can report them to paypal by just right-clicking on the email from your in-box and selection "Forward" then send to spoof@paypal.com. The sender will not be able to tag this as an opened email. Sometimes you get an acknowledgement from Paypal (like the ones posted by other OPs) most of the time you wont. After that there's not much else for it but to add the sender to your junk email list.

You could open a different email account, clean and new and learn your lesson.

I've had the same email address for the last 4 years and its my main one for work & personal (I have other email addresses for cr*p/unimportant stuff). The hassle of changing it and telling everyone is not worth the 30 seconds it takes me to report then delete the paypal scams.
