Totally agree anyone who accepts Paypal on a collection item is taking a very stupid avoidable rsik, A thread on ebay forums about the subject HERE. Has the normal snipes and moans of the ebay forums but is interesting0 -
Thank you for your comments, about to sell some vintage furniture and will definitely be accepting cash on collection only, had never occurred to me that that scam was possible..

Don't forget though that you can ask for cash on collection but you can't insist on it and buyers can still pay by paypal.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. why on earth would you consider not taking cash???? do you like to pay paypal there cut for well.............not a lot .............. if you like i will accept the cash on your behalf, take a 3% cut like paypal does and i will transfer the remaining money FREE OF CHARGE to a bank account of your choice....hows that soundEveryones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0

Thank God all the normal people came out today, at one point I felt like I was the only person on-line last night who actually still saw the value of cash;)
There really are some weird perceptions of the "value" and "security" of Paypal as opposed to cash by some Ebay users.

Wow. Where did that flood of delusional cash hating loons come from and where did they go? If we are lucky it was a one off mad invasion.
As the sensible people who know what they are talking about have come online and posted good advice now, I take it that you, OP, now understand that when offered cash on collection with no other suspicious circumstances involved, you bite the buyers hand off to accept it.
It's easy to tell real money, and if you're worried that you can't then a tester pen is cheap. Most people would just not try to defraud you in this way as it would be much easier to just pay via Paypal, come round and collect and then make a claim for non-reciept of items that they will win as you cannot prove delivery.0
