I also tried to order from their medium/large business section a month or so back with the same result (order cancelled) I think it is to do with the fact that it states the med/large business section caters for 200+ employees whereas the small business caters for as little as 1 employee,  the prices are cheaper on the large business section because i think they expect you to make multiple orders.  Thanks GDB2222 for your reply regarding the processor upgrade, although i was unaware a possible incompatablility in the RAM the RAM with this system is DDR333.

I bought a Dell PC just before Xmas off the medium business site with no problems whatsoever.
Just make sure you give them a company name (like Smith & Sons or something) rather than a personal name.
What I can't understand though is how they will accept that a company with 200+ employees wouldn't have a VAT number!

Yes, no VAT number is a bit of a joke isnt it.

I used a company name that I used to trade under and ordered/got delivered a system from the public sector just before Xmas.

I ordered another from medium bus sector and got nothing back at all, just the invitation to phone them.

Ordered another from the small bus sector and thats coming now.
All Dell'd up ;) several times over :)
  • Quick question, Looking to buy a Laptop from Dell ASAP. How quickly do they deliver? Looked on site but can't find anything. Would it be quicker as its a laptop or do they build these individually too??

    Cheers

The new Celeron D processor has the intel Prescott core features and is much better than the old Celeron. It is also much better at video editing than the AMD Sempron but the Semprom would have the edge in games. The Sempron is a cut down version of the old Athlon, not quite as powerful.

Just a note of caution. I ordered a Dell system from Public Health end November and had the order cancelled when they would not give me the free delivery that had been posted on this site.
Two days ago I received an email from Dell confirming my order I had placed on 31/12. I didn't order any PC - not been near Dell site since beginning December. Strange thing is PC config matched config from end-Nov with the better price I wanted. It's as though Dell resurected an order out of the ether.
    This happened to anyone else?

Just had a chat with a Dell person, I guess he was in the India call center as I had great dificulty hearing what he said, or should that be understanding his accent.
Upshot of it was that they have now found my order placed in large bus sector on 22/12/04 and will be sending me the pdf's today and delivering it in 5-10days.

SO, it seems that if you use a company name Dell will accept orders placed in any of their sections as I have now used just about all the different ones ;)

Still think its a little hit and miss though ordering from the med/large business section, the order i made around the end of november 04 was within that section and I did include a business name AND a fax number but all i received, after continually chasing the order up, was an email notifying me of the cancellation of the order although no proper explanation why.
