    ;D thanks, ordered one, PDF states(2.6GHz, 400fsb, 256k cache )
  • Hi, I was wondering if someone could help me on this one. All I'm looking for is a new tower. I only surf the internet and maybe the odd letter on word. I dont play games, download music etc. Would this dell offer be ok for me. Does it have sound etc (sorry if this sounds dumb but I really don't have a clue about computers). I noticed it doesn't have a 'floppy' does this matter? Some help would be greatly appreciated. Angela.

The motherboard has onboard sound and graphics and nowadays the onboard sound is as good as a standalone sound cards, as for the floppy it depends on how often you use them, I havent used mine in months, its better to get a usb pendrive which cost a couple of pounds and can store dozens of floppys worth of material to one pendrive (dont buy a pendrive from dell though they are too expensive!). Try ebuyer or similar for the pendrive. Apart from that this system should cater perfectly for your needs Angela.

This is a very good sys for internet and ms office aplications also it would handel simple games (not high graphics dependant) and photo applications. I would imagine the sound to be pretty good too as most onboard sound chips now are as good as or sometimes better than the PCI ones thought it does state that its sterio.
As for there been no floppy, I dont miss mine one bit I bought a USB pen drive and have only used it once to transfere a document from one pc to another.

  • This seems like a good deal. Can someone who's got theirs do a PCmark04 test and put up the results? ::)

If you wanna upgrade the above system, below is just a suggestion where to go and get bits...

    Memory for system:- http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/listparts.asp?Mfr%2BProductline=Dell%2BDimension&mfr=Dell&cat=RAM&model=Dimension+2400+Series&submit=Go

PCI Graphics :- http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=105003 (Beware of expensive delivery, if you live near bolton as i do just go pick up)

HDD:- http://www.komplett.co.uk/k/ki.asp?sku=302610&cks=WOF (If you wanna use a 2nd hard drive you need a caddy from e-bay as well as a ide cable with 3 connectors. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=39972&item=5151436298&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

    DVDRW:- http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=133745

Just trying to save some time for someone looking to upgrade as i have already done this. (ps. I'm not saying the above are the cheapest, just what you can add / upgrade)

Buy the dell on the barclaycard if you have one and register it with barclays asap (they're getting rid of it soon) to get the 1 year additional warranty. Hey presto you have FREE 2 year warranty

The above looks like Barclays site, not wishing to be rude to the poster, but is this safe to pass the card details on?
I cant see a direct link on Barclays site, I guess domgen is the insurer?

Cant be too careful these days ;)
All Dell'd up ;) several times over :)

It's understandable, You can always ring Barclays Customer Services if you don't want to enter your credit details. They will simply talk through with you your purchase. The Contact details are on the main site http://www.barclaycard.co.uk/Products/Apply/Card_Benefits/Warranty/index.html

Does anyone know if this celeron processor can be upgraded to a P4 at a later date, ie will the motherboard take it or do dell use different motherboards and do P4's accept single slot ram like you get with this pc?
