Can anyone point me to a website that compares the older style celeron processor with the newer celeron D please. I have just ordered one of these systems but would have prefered the newer celeron D processor, now I am just hoping the performance and speed is not much slower.
thanks in advance

The best places for comparison tests are:
https://www.anandtech.com and https://www.tomshardware.com
though you won't find a direct comparison. From the tests I've seen the old 2.6ghz celeron is similar to the old AMD 1.6ghz Duron while the new ones are little less powerful that the new AMD Semprons which I think are similar to the older Athlon XPs. Heres a processor comparison:

It's a big performance difference though if your doing basic stuff it won't seem too bad.0 -

I'll second both points from my own experience:-
a) The celeron D is a big improvement
b) I have several of the older-style celeron 2.6 PCs in the office and they perform fine for running word processing, spreadsheet, accounts, etc.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
thanks nice one0

Thanks for your replies guys. Unfortunately I have ordered a 2.4 celeron now but as i stated what i use the computer for is not really intensive, surfing the net and the occasional letter and disc burn is what i mainly use it for and if my AMD 500 processor can do it i presume this celeron can, I would be interested though if these motherboards can take the P4 processor (and at what maximum speed), I have tried to research into it but cannot find enough information. Its not a viable proposition now cos the P4 processors are still quite expensive but in 18months time it might be a different story.

Dell also sell the 2400 with a P4 running at a fsb of 533. I am pretty sure that there are no changes to the motherboard. So, I reckon that you can almost certainly run a 2.8 P4 with a 533 fsb, but not the 800 fsb version.
However, the RAM may need to be upgraded to 2700.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
Got one of these 2 or 3 months back for my 11 year old daughter. She's playing the latest SIMS game on it (added a pair of cheapo speakers) and it performs like %$£% off a shovel (my interpretation of her description I hasten to add), and that's without installing the 128MB PCI graphics card I bought thinking it may need

Also manually installed a DVD drive which keeps her entertained for hours upon end watching her Harry Potter box set. If that's the sort of machine you're looking for then you can't go far wrong. Just pray that you don't need to contact Dell customer services because it is absolutely diabolical (experience from a previous order) !!
Anyways, a happy and prosperous new year to you all.0 -
I bought one (£151) which is being delivered on 3rd Jan.
I also ordered the same from large bus section on 12 dec except that at £163 it had an 80gig h/d instead of the 40gig one, now that order fell into a black hole and although I had an IR number and as a previous customer I had a customer number they were unable to trace it even afer I sent them a screen shot of the order. So they do still have on line order problems.
Got a msg from them on my answerphone last night so I guess a chat with their India call center is on the cards now.
Happy new year to all our readers
