That I didn't see I confess. Well I'd want to withhold the cost of that accommodation from the rent - but I'd have thought it would have been wise to broach that matter at the time it was happening as well rather than leave it.

I do agree that the OP should have raised the issue of having to move out and compensation early on. Perhaps difficult to see when a problem gets progressively worse and back then the OP would not have realised it would drag on for three months.

Still worth raising now IMO, if the LL is reasonable he should see the point.

That I did read but as it was initially mentioned that it was a shower causing the over-flow into the sink I thought that perhaps Op was being a little dramatic in disecting the particular make-up of 'used' shower water

Yes could mean either, but later clarified:

welshwoof it was water from the toilet with visiable toilet paper and poo. that it why im angry.

Sounds like the shower made the problem more obviously worse as that was the thing that put a lot of water in the system.

I think the solution would have been to crap in the sink, and wash up in the shower.

The main sewer must be quite wide. To have a complete blockage, enough to send the shower water into the sink, would mean that something out of the ordinary has blocked it.

This odes suggest that someone, either a tenant or possibly a neighbour if it is a shared sewer, has used the facilities in a non-approved manner.

True - but I was once getting all ready to blame a T when a house drain appeared to be mostly blocked (but not totally blocked). Culprit turned out to be a tree root which had grown through the sewer pipe, restricting the flow so much that the sewer was backing. So a non human fault cause is still possible!

I am listening to replies, i was angry at people not being able to grasp the situation as well as the ll still wanting rent for said time.

The flow from the shower was going outside and then due to a blockage was coming back up and mixing with the toilet system. i am not a plumber so i do not know the total ins ands outs.

thank you everyone who has tried to help in a positive way.

Which do you want, a deep clean or a retrospective reduction in rent? You keep changing your mind. If you wanted a reduction in rent you needed to have gone through the appropriate channels at the time, writing recorded delivery letters and getting your own plumber in if no response (cost deducted out of rent).

As for the deep clean this is not necessary. Asda Smartprice bleach is 28p for a large bottle; presumably the plumber has cleaned out the trap if not get your landlord to sort this ASAP. Then throw copious amounts of diluted bleach on and down every surface and orifice. I used to run a microbiology lab and I can assure you this will be sufficient. Any diseased housemate will long since have infected the rest of you through the lack of personal hygiene rampant in shared houses.

With nappies you are flushing the poo down the sink and not usually at the time when you are trying to prepare food or wash up. Geez you guys can really cook in a kitchen with waste water and solid excrement backing up in the kitchen sink

Bleaching the sink up afterwards is not problem, but the sewage will presumably have gone up the sink overflow which is harder to clean.

The issue to me is having to live with it for three months, co-ordinating showers not to mix with cooking and having to bleach up every day.

Besides if the sink is backing up how can you drain away the washing up water/ shower waste water and sewage? That alone renders the sink useless for the three months it took to fix. Still the old tenant should pay full price eh?

He/she is asking for a DEEEEEP clean NOW, not 3 months ago. The problem has been solved, so all your points about cooking with excrement don't apply. The OP asks what level of clean is needed (well, they ask for a "deep" clean but...) and that's what's been advised.
Pursuing the LL for a "deep clean" seems to have been their main aim, but it's a pointless one.
Equally puruing them for a refund of rent is rather more difficult now than it would have been had the question been posed when the problem occurred.

Equally, YOU seem to have concentrated on the issue that has been resolved, rather than the pursuit of already paid rent.

    "I wasn't happy"

"But you paid your rent and didn't pursue a written complaint until it was resolved"

"But I'm not happy now that it has been resolved"

"Erm, ok, try to be happier"

I think OP could spend a lot of time trying to get something back, and has limited chance of success.
How much do you think they could get back and how much time do you think they'd have to spend to get it?
    Is it worth it?

OP wants to come on here and have everybody say: “there there, cuddle cuddle, yes you are entitled to a whole new sink and lots of money”.

Well, some have cuddled up and some haven’t. It’s the MSE spectrum of opinions. Next time set up a poll.[/QUOTE]

i dont want any cuddles whatsoever. I was merely asking for some help and advice.

Maybe i didnt explain the situation clearly enough.

next time ill remember to steer clear from the wise wit and wisdom of not loaded.
