Told this over the phone when I called them a couple of days ago.
I phoned the Clubcard line first, but they didn't know the way points accrued on individual cards. They suggested I phone the banking side, and they had all the details for each type of card.
At the moment, they say, points are being given as I recently posted, but that changes at the expiry date of your Platinum Card when they replace it with a different type of card (presumably a standard Tesco one). At that point the number of points will drop (and I shall close the account).
I might be wrong, but I think the points, may go up! If you had a Platinum card before, it most be because your spending or credit worthiness warraned it, unless that has changed - can't see you being given a 'standard' card (after all you 'presumed' that).

I have the original tesco credit card from days of yore - its purple, not finest etc - does anyone know what the points reward on these is? It used to be better than the newer cards.
They have never offered to "upgrade " although I am a very heavy user who sometimes does and sometimes doesn't pay off in full. Wonder why?

Yes, it's the platinum 'Finest' card I have now, and these are being replaced as they reach their expiry date. It may well be that they're not being replaced by a standard card (I didn't ask them that) but they were quite clear about the number of points which will accrue on it:

    Tesco spending - 5 points per £4 (presently 6 points per £4)
    Non-Tesco spending - 1 point per £4 (presently 2 points per £4)

I'm not too bothered about the Tesco spending (we use a Clubcard Plus card for that, but our local Tesco is appalling and a combination of Lidl and Waitrose is a far better option), but the non-Tesco spending only gives 0.25% on the new card. Even doubling it (on the basis that most of the x4 Clubcard deals are priced at twice the 'best' price) it's still only worth 0.5% and you can easily better that without the tie of having to use Clubcard deals.

I'm out - or I will be as soon as the new card arrives!

I have just spoken with a Team Leader in the Clubcard Department. I have a Tesco Finest World Mastercard, the first 6 digits are 5521 88. This card attracts 5 points for every £2 spent in store, ie 2 points + 2 points (because of double clubcard points at the moment) plus 1 point for using the credit card in store. Once the double clubcard points promotion ends, possibly soon, then this card will attract 3 points for every £2 spent in store. This card still gives 1 point for every £2 spent outside Tesco.

The Team Leader told me that this information was in a new information booklet, which has only just been issued.

dollywops thanks for that, sorry to be dense but how does that compare with the existing finest card? Is it better or worse?

I have no idea. Certainly not worse, possibly the same. The card I have, was originally purple, then became Platinum and is now black. You need to ring and ask and give them the first 6 digits of your cc as well as your clubcard.

Thanks dollywops. This conflicts with the information I was given a couple of days ago on the changes which will take place when my Finest card expires. According to that call (and I asked her to double check it) it's definitely going to be as follows:

    Tesco spending - 5 points per £4 (presently 6 points per £4)
    Non-Tesco spending - 1 point per £4 (presently 2 points per £4)

It's about time Tesco published all this info online to stop the confusion. But I imagine they're reluctant to do that because it will disclose the varying schemes they have and possibly hack off a fair number of customers. It would also make quite a number of people realise that they're not getting as many points as they thought they were!

I think it is all down to the 1st 6 digits of your credit card as to which scheme you fall into. My Finest World Black Mastercard (which replaced the platinum one) starts 5521 88. I obviously don't know the nos on your card. Did you get a leaflet some months ago advising of a change from the platinum to the Finest world card, with 650 points being added to your May quarterly clubcard statement?
