Tax Credit Briefing discussion

Hi
I'm new to tax credit, have just sent in the completed form. I'm a self-employed person, no partner or kids, working 30+ hours a week, and my income varies a lot from year to year (so I'll be eligible April 11- - April 12, but maybe not the year after that). I've just become scared reading the problems people have had  but I haven't actually experienced any of those yet... got all that joy to come...good luck to all of you battling out there!
I just want to know if receiving TC opens the way to any other benefits? Does anyone know?'Whatever you dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it. Begin now.' Goethe

Hi Just want to know if anyone has requested a potential payment to be released from tc. My husband is self employed and his earnings are down this year. We are owed about 1100 from tc and could be doing with it at present. I have requested this to be released, but was told they dont know if it would be released and how long it would take. any advice would be appreciated.:)0

You have to wait till the renewal for these so April-July time, unfortunately.0 -
Hi, can anyone help. I started my own business Feb of 2011 and was under the impression my accountant was doing all my claims. He has just apologies after possibly costing me thousands! I only earn around £10,000 for the year up to March 2012 so can claim quite a lot. I have just found out I can only go back 3 months and not to April 2011. As it's my accountants fault for misleading me is there any appeal process that could override the standard 3 months of back dating, it's worth around £8000!!! Any help massively appreciated. Thanks Clive0

I'm hoping someone can clarify some things for me on here and I'm getting lost in paperwork and very confused. Here's the background to start.
Me and my partner split up four years ago and during the time we claimed we had built up three years of overpayments by (stupidly, I now realise!) underestimating our income. We disputed the overpayment at the time but the TCC decided we had to pay anyway. He paid back what we owed for the tax year ending 2008 leaving £1000 left to pay. Me and my ex partner were not getting on well at the time and communication wasn't at it's best so I wasn't sure how much he had paid, however I will admit that I did something stupid and just filed away the dispute results letter, applied for a new claim on my own with my children and moved on.
Cut to four years later and I receive a letter out of the blue demanding the £1000 again which I had completely forgotten about!
My questions are; why wait four years to chase this up? and although I agree that there was an overpayment, can anyone tell me the income barriers from the year 2004-2008? I want to know if our actual income fell within an acceptable range from the estimated income. I had heard that the buffer was £10000 but don't know if this is true?!
many thanks in advance for any help0 -
HMI are telling me i have been overpaid £2k, i asked for a recording of the conversation as i know i told them the correct info, on the recording i told them my employed income (im both employed and self employed) and also that i had paid some £6k into a private pension, the recording clearly says that this £6k can be deducted from my employed income so reducing it to the amount i have stated and in effect removing their claim that i declared a falsely low employed income - can anyone tell me who is right here as im feeling very confused!!0

Call he helpline and request an overpayment dispute form, complete it and return it. As long as it was indeed a private pension and not your PAYE employers scheme, and you hadn't already made adjustments to your S/E income for it.0 -
i think i already may have done this online? they sent me the transcript when i appealed against their decision, ive been paying similar amounts into a private pension for the past few years..............does this mean they actually could owe ME money0
