Caught speeding

OK i know we will get hammered and told it his own fault which it is and i myself have given him a very hard time about it so here goes

Partner was caught speeding on the m6 doing 130  on his bike it was early hrs of the morning so very little traffic. Police officer said he would get something through the post which he has just a letter stating he was stopped and they intend to prosecute but nothing else since. Police officer stated at the time that if he had not of been speeding he would have been very impressed with the way my partner rode his bike and used the motorway correctly but that is besides the point.

Now i am of the opinion that no matter what happens he will loose his licence Hopefully for a few weeks but more probably for about 3 months. Its a first offence and has a completely clean licence. He has accepted he has done wrong and been completely stupid and is not trying to get out of it in anyway shape or form. we just wanted some opinions on what he can expect by way of punishment!

The one certainty will be the ban - its duration will depend on the magistrate, mood, number of similar cases heard and publicised recently, your partner's approach to the case etc etc

I think it will be hard to avoid anything than a ban TBH. It can be avoided if you are lucky but 130mph is far too fast for that and is top end. I'd say he might need legal advice on this one to keep everything to a minimum.

    6 points.
    6 months ban
At LEAST £500 fine (probably more).

Anything over 100mph is usually automatic ban for 3 months but seeing as how this was blatant speeding and not a few mph over, the 6 months is VERY likely.

Count your blessings, if he had have had a blow out etc. at that speed, we would be looking at something far worse than any ban.

I think after you have done some research a solicitor might be in order. As you will note on here there are many opinions on how bad it will be but you really need sound advice on damage limitation.

I'm afraid it will depend on the magistrate in court. I had a similar incident two years ago where I got caught speeding at 124 same circumstances though it was on the M60 at 4am with no traffic around. When I went to court I was very apoligectic, I had no reason to go this speed and told the magistrate that I would not insult them by trying to defend it. I had three points on my license from a previous sppeding ticket (camera 48 in a 40).

I didnt have a solictor, but wished I'd got one as I got the following:

    12 Month Bann
Order to take extended re test
    Fine £750.00

But like I said it depends on the magistrate as I have heard of others getting a lot less for similar offences.

Tell your partner good luck tho!

Your probably looking at a 6-12 month ban, a fine of between £500 and £1000 and the need to take another driving test. You can be sure they'll certainly be a ban though, there really is no way to avoid it at that speed.

130mph is way to fast to claim any defence to be honest.
