Hi my husband has recently had work completed on his motorbike as well as a major service being completed .
However they failed to find a problem and told my husband of this , he paid the service fee and left with the bike.
We took the bike to a stealership (well known) and honest and the head mechanic informed us that the service has never been completed as the head bolts are rusted in place and if they had been removed for a service they would have tool marks on them and should have been replaced on completion.
So we have paid a bill for a major service and the work was not completed . Is there any way we can claim this money back . It was paid for on a credit card..
mANY THANKS

Have you contacted the company who serviced it and asked them. Let them know of your concerns.0

not as of yet . the company has been taken over just before the service.. we will present them with our evidence this weekendONE HOUSE , DS+ DD Missymoo Living a day at a time and getting through this mess you have created. One day life will have no choice but to be nice to me :rotfl:0

I would go straight back to the company, receipt in hand, and point out why you know the service wasn't done, and either demand a full refund, or to have the service carried out, given you have already paid for it.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
narr the bike has now been traded as the repair was beyond our means , i have a statement from a well known triumph expert so ill go in blazing and demand a refund. Wouldnt want them to touch the bike even if we still had itONE HOUSE , DS+ DD Missymoo Living a day at a time and getting through this mess you have created. One day life will have no choice but to be nice to me :rotfl:0

I've never owned a bike, is it normal to take the head bolts off for a major service? On a car you'd only do it if you were changing a headgasket or whatever...0

the rocket cover should have been taken off for a major service and these bolts were rusted in place.ONE HOUSE , DS+ DD Missymoo Living a day at a time and getting through this mess you have created. One day life will have no choice but to be nice to me :rotfl:0

Oh, the rocker cover, that's different. What part of the major service would require the rocker cover being removed?
If I took my car in for a major service, I wouldn't expect them to be touching the rocker cover which covers the camshaft etc, unless I had reported smoke and wanted them to check the clearances, or something. But as I say, I've never owned a bike! What work should he have done that was included in the major service that he couldn't have done due to not removing the rocker cover?
Not removing the rocker cover doesn't mean a major service was not performed as far as I can tell, with my total lack of knowledge of bikes...0 -
Bare in mind one Garage's service is different from another.
You need to confirm what was included in the service and find out what couldnt possibly have been done from that list.
The problem is that the report only shows these items were not done.
In all honesty you can ask the questions but are unlikely to get anywere as you havent given them the chance to correct the issues - i.e return it for the service items they missed.0 -
no .. sorry a major service should comprimise of the set standard or things associated with the particular model of bike.
A 12 k service is like a 3 year service on a car .
We gave them the oportunity to complete all the service as they had the bike 6 weeks . This was also stored inappropriatly outside causing furing on the parts exposed with no cover. I ahve pictures that i will go and see them with .. Sorry iof I dont agree, i dont feel they have serviced the bike as they said they would, and have failed to find a fault it took another technition 3 hours to find. I would say they didnt do their job and they charged us for it ...ONE HOUSE , DS+ DD Missymoo Living a day at a time and getting through this mess you have created. One day life will have no choice but to be nice to me :rotfl:0 -
I would say if you have traded it on you have little chance of them doing anything for you , as you can't return the bike for them to correct any mistake.
Buy paying for the service and leaving with the bike, you may have acepted the condition it was in. If it was stored outside why did you not raise these points before you paid for the service? how long from removal from the 1st garage did you sell it on?
Maybe the only chance would to be for the new garage to give you a written statment saying they found that the bike was not serviced to THIER standards and noting things that have been missed, you would also need to get a copy of the old garages service list and see if they have charged you for things that the new garage have witnessed not being done.
all in all mechanics are pretty much like most trades that involve skill- some people are good ,some are bad, some over charge for lacking skills and some are honnest and some are not. It hard to be let down, loose money and a loved bike but not really sure what you can do now.0
