Sold a laptop - its being returned

I sold a laptop last week and seller paid via paypal. Within a day or so he opened a dispute that it was "different" to how it was described, which it wasnt! He asked for a 40% refund.
We decided as it is immaculate and worth every penny, we would not do a partial refund but he could have a full refund and return to us in same condition and we would sell to next top bidder.
It came back today however he has taken a 1gb stick of RAM out of it!! The only option open on the paypal dispute to me, is to confirm delivery back. However I dont want to click that when he has not sent it to me in the same condition i sent it to him.
Help! What can I do??? How do i report to paypal that its back but its not complete?

Has he sent it back to you tracked? Do you have evidence of the original RAM specs EG receipts so you can then submit these to Paypal0
-
Yes it was tracked. Evidence wise, I have the specs I listed on ebay stating what RAM was in it. He never emailed to say the RAM was wrong, so does that class as evidence at all? I dont think I have the reciepts for the extra RAM as it was installed about a year ago.0

Another well known scam. Nothing you can do about it either unless you have proof.0

Really??
So how do people still sell stuff on ebay then??? Surely everyone would just give up...........0 -
there is always a few a***oles that ruin it for others, i certainly wouldn't be clicking on paypal that you have received it, mainly because you stated it had to be returned in the same condition it was sent, clearly it isn't therefore you haven't received itEveryones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0

I wouldn't have thought that not confirming that you have received it would make any difference, as the sender has sent it via a tracked method. If it has been signed for with Royal Mail, the 'scammer' will be able to prove it was received anyway. This is yet another example of something that puts me off using ebay and Paypal. Most recent wins: IPad, Jamie Magazine yearbook, Links of London friendship bracelet, Baumatic ice cream machine! :j0 -
it just prolonging it, i would still email paypal stating that the memory stick is missing and until that it received back the return is not completeEveryones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0

Thank you for your replys. To update you, it turns out the whole PC he sent back was not mine. On closer inspection of my ebay listing where i had photos of my PC and comparing them with the one he sent back, they were not the same one. The hologram on the front for Windows vista was a different shape and colour.
I spoke to paypal and they advised me to get a police crime number and make a statement which I have done today.
I have sent photographic evidence along with a statement from the local computer shop who reformatted the PC and installed the RAM, to state this is not my PC.
Paypal are quite sure that they will be able to seize the funds from him and refund me in a matter of days.
Im so glad I took lots of photos of my laptop before listing it, its a saviour!
My advice, take photos, log serial numbers and be prepared for a scam artist.
Anyone who would like the ebay ID of the scammer feel free to email me.
Thanks again for the help. :j0 -
i do hope paypal are on your side all the way, hopefully you will get all your money back and you will have a laptop on top too, result
hope it gets sorted soon but i expect it will take some time so hang in thereEveryones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -
