I'd say that the manor park side of Ash Rd (i.e. towards south Aldershot - Elston Rd, Brighton Rd, etc) is much nicer than Waterloo Rd, and towards North Town and the football ground. however, none of it is as bad as people make out, all fairly quiet overall. depends what you're used to?
A private drive in very rural Hampshire normally! However I did live in Kings Cross, Sydney for 7/8 months recently which is packed full of drunks/druggies/revellers.
The main advantage of Aldershot is the, direct train to London in 40 minutes should I get a job there, as long as I buy somewhere within sane walking distance of the station. Farnborough is about the same, Farnham is about 1hr.0 -
what place in Hampshire, if you don't mind me asking? (i grew up in F'boro/A'shot and have lived in Southampton).
Aldershot is very quiet compared to big cities, yes it has undesirables but also a lot of conservative types (there must be a reason it's a tory town - still can't believe it though). the town centre is poor though.
not to be pedantic, but the train from Aldershot is either 47 or 53 minutes to Waterloo! You could buy somewhere like Campbell Fields (a newish development in Manor Park) or anywhere just over the train bridge.
Farnborough is a little quicker into Waterloo than Aldershot. Farnham takes longer, but then it's nicer - but if I was commuting to London i'd go for F'boro anyday, then A'shot, but definitely not Farnham as it takes too long.
what type of property are you looking for?0 -
Pinewood Park's major disadvantage is poor public transport.
yes, F'boro has a rubbish town centre, but is not as rough as Aldershot. F'boro also has NO nightlife whatsoever and only a leisure centre and a few posh hotels for entertainment.
the houses near the M3 are north F'boro near Cove and it can be an issue, but overall this is a good area to live. overall, i'd prefer to live in F'boro than A'shot, except Manor Park/Rowhill areas of A'shot which are very nice and close to Badshot Lea and Farnham but much cheaper. A'shot also has tennis courts in Manor park and 2 lovely parks and a quiet not too busy traffic feel.
I think the thing is, every town has it's good places and bad places and each person looks for different qualities.
I have friends who like nightlife that live here, but they don't have a problem going to London or other towns for it.
I myself live in Ash and commute to Guildford for clothes shopping, eat out in Farnham or Guildford, work in Farnborough, use B&Q in Farnborough, use the Guildford cinema as I don't like the new Vue in Camberley, food shop at Farnborough Asda, Aldershot Tesco, or Sainsburys Blackwater.
I actually visited the houses next to M3 and I didn't think the noise was that bad, and this didn't personally put me off viewing a house that came up there, but just the pure fact that they back onto it much have some affect on the prices?0 -

You could also consider Fleet - the next stop along the line from Farnborough. I'm not sure how it compares house-price-wise to the areas you're looking at - but it has a nice town centre, good communitiy events and good nightlife. Its not as nice as Farnham, but I would rank it above Aldershot or Farnborough.
Fleet is one stop further away from London than F'boro and much more expensive! Fleet town centre is nice, but the nightlife is nothing special.
A'shot & F'boro are much better value for money property wise IMO than both Farnham and Fleet.0 -

Like I said, I don't really know how it compares price-wise, I would expect Fleet to be a little more expensive and Farnham to be even more so, but of the four towns I personally would be prepared to pay a little extra to live in Fleet or Farnham as I think that they're much nicer towns. But as always, that's a matter of opinion0 -
