    Hello Budgie,

There is a site called- cheap family recipes (will pop up if you Go*gle it) .There are some recipes I have tried that are great ! All very low cost of course.

Good luck with the grocery challenge !

Thank you Chickenopolis :) I have just had a look at the site and its full of information. I am also playing about with an Ocado order as still have free deliver for the 1st week in August.

They have some good offers on, eg: Salmon fresh pack of 4 is half price and very nice too. I am also going to be having a bash at twinks hobnobs as Mr Bb is terrible at getting through biscuits and an alarming rate.

There is such alot to learn, but hey ho I need to stay in budget with what funds I have available.

Budgie likes a challenge, it brings out my competetive side. ;)

    Take care xxx

Just had a nice pm from another user on another thread, it just goes to show that sometimes its nice to be nice :)

Sometimes just saying a kind word here or there can make a difference to people that can be struggling.

So lesson learnt is to be kinder and more compassionate, because in the end it can make a difference.:A

With 3 'fussy' children who would rather go with out dinner than eat/even try something they don't like the look of?

I'm not the worlds most adventurous cook

One will eat fish and sausages no potato

One will eat no meat and no veg

One will eat most things but not veg unless pur!ed into a tomato based sauce (other two will not touch any kind of tomato based product)

And I've tried the not giving them alternatives thing and they just will go without dinner then I feel bad and give them toast or bread and butter

Will they eat gravy? one trick of mine (not for the kids, my 30yr old brother) make gravy with the veg water, all the nutrients no actual lumps of veg!

    Nope :(.

I suspect I'm going to have to have a couple of tough weeks/reward chart system or similar.

I've also tried getting them to help with the making and making pretty shapes with food etc.

sounds like a nightmare!!! how about soups will they eat that as u can blend up everything and they wont see it. if that fails homemade oven chips easy to make and not too unhelthy if use spray oil. i found out my son has an addiction to carrots so if i make say lentil soup which i put carrots in i tell him its carrot soup which he near licks the bowl clean i throw in potatoes too as he likes these but you could blend them in so they cant see them. also make your own bread i can make parsnip bread (river cottage recipe) and he dont know they in it,its all about deceiving the little monsters. he said to me the other day mummy we grow all these veg in our garden......who eats them as i dont like cabbage parsnips etc...if only you knew little boy mummys best friend is the blender!!! also can do the same with fruit i dont have that prob with my boy we would need to take out a second morgage to pay for fruit bill he loves it but you could make smoothies drop in some pears as they colourless same for apples then add the strawberries/raspberries for colour, or freeze bananas on a lolly stick and dip in chocolate tescos 30p a big bar hope this helps.

Yeah! Think I am going to have to take a bit of time looking into and 'inventing' things to do lol

They are fine with fruit! And the only veg they ever did like (bar when babies) were peas and sweetcorn. As I say the eldest will eat things as long as she can't see chunks of veg in it. The other two are way more difficult

I'm one of those wipes who supermarket shop wherever. And chuck anything I see in the trolley, don't plan, then end up with cupboards and freezer full but not of what I fancy making, lol

I need to get tough. I'm chucking money down the drain this way!

  • Ok, so they are fine with fruit. Then give them fruit salad, homemade. We demolish a fresh pineapple, melon, 4 oranges, and whatever else a week in house of TILAMS.

Oh, and do it in jelly and add ice cream - never fails.
