paying bills for an empty house

in Water bills
I received a bill for around £125 from Anglian Water for a house that has been empty and on the market for six months.
The house is metered and the estimated bill showed a little usage, with the bulk of the cost being standing charge and sewerage. I rang them this morning and after arguing that I wasn't using their water or sewage system, the kind operative said she would cancel my entire bill. I was surprised, but what a result! :T
Moral of the story... ring them, and politely but firmly argue your point.
