To the ones with older babies (older than Rhys ain't hard!).. How much do you use your microwave with a little one? Particularly once weaned, do you use it to defrost purees or anything else?
We have a microwave which used to sit on the kitchen side but now with the new kitchen layout it would take up too much room. We did think about putting it on a bracket on the wall but I'm just wondering if we could get away with not having it at all, or will we regret it once Rhys is older?
Only used to use it occasionally for heating pasta sauces/beans and steaming veg, but all things which can be done on the hob and in the steamer (recently given to us at random by MIL). Oh, apart from hot wheat bags.. can't do them on the hob, I guess!

As regards Dummies, my son is a dummy fiend!
I have about 8 dummies to keep up with his demand!:j Baby boy Number 2, arrived 12th April 2009!:j0 -
Elle I use my microwave a lot for warming up meals for Celia and those little packets of steam veg are baby led weaning heaven (imo) but you could do all of that on the hob, it's just the microwave is so much faster and requires less pan washing up!
Picnic ladies/other interested parties wthe protestors should be in yesterday's Guardian (the Warrington one, not the Guardian Guaridan!), I will verify whether we are or not and then report back :-)Comping, freebieing and trying to pay the mortgage off early!0 -

I use my micro everyday. I heat up all his bottles and food with it. It takes seconds to warm his food in the micro and being able to just leave it in the serving dish means no dirty pans:)

Rhys is home and skinty's had a baby. We've all had lots of rain / disagreements with our OHs or MILs / a good week / a bad week / several sleepless nights and we are coping / not coping / absolutely cream crackered.
But (wait for it) we can all say ...
I AM DOING A GOOD JOB!
How's that for a summary?
PS sorry the last couple of weeks haven't been good. Things can only get better. I am never moving again ...Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

Oh, and I agree about microwaves, they are brilliant for things which leave really grotty saucepans. I will never boil milk in the pan again, and it would be a shame if that meant I could never again have a mug of hot chocolate.
I didn't so much use them for re-heating baby food because mine were all happy to eat things cold, much to my MIL's horror, but although I don't use it a great deal I wouldn't be without one. Not to mention the fact that wheat bags are so much nicer than hot water bottles ...Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Hang on, I did a summary for emlou, and it's not there!
Here goes again:
Rhys is home and weezl's just said that skinty's had a baby (there may be more babies but don't feel left out if I don't mention you all ...)
We've all had a good time / a bad time / a horrendous time and we are coping / not coping / absolutely cream crackered. Our offspring are sleeping well / not sleeping at all and eating well / eating for England / not eating at all. Our OHs are wonderful / complete wastes of space / somewhere in between but they can't help being men (sorry Bruno).
Those who went to the picnic appear to be quite normal.
I'm not repeating all the sex chat.
And we can all say
I AM DOING A GOOD JOB!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
In the early days of weaning if we had something which wasn't really very practical for Alice (e.g. risotto - not very practical when you need chip size chunks) I used to have some sticks of different veg (e.g. carrot, parsnip, swede) I'd pre-cooked in the freezer and I'd bung one of them in the microwave to defrost. Otherwise I've only used the mocrowave for things we were using it for anyway. I tend to be trying to cool Alice's food - not warm it. These days I generally remember to put her bowl/plate in the freezer in advance so that the food will cool quickly when it's dished out.Any question, comment or opinion is not intended to be criticism of anyone else.2 Samuel 12:23 Romans 8:28 Psalm 30:5
