Orange mobile broadband overcharging

  • I have just received a bill from Orange for mobile broadband of £328 for one month. They claim i have used 25gB in one month. My normal usage is about 2.5gB and my bill is always under the £14.67. I have phoned and got them to investigate, they say this will take 2 weeks. How can it take two weeks to check an electronic bill? I am sure they will come back claiming i have used 25gB. It is very stressful , especially as i am unemployed. Does anyone know how one can cancel this horrid 18month contract?
  • In my case I put my complaint in writing. Got a call from orange who said it must have been me initating the tests and I could send a text "STOP" message. I said that I wasnt happy with this explanation and the rep refered it to another "department". Called back a few minutes later and said they would refund the charges. They would however not refund any future charges now they have told me how to "STOP" them. Not really satisfactory as it could happen again. At least I was refunded the charges.

    Hi Melfoc,

I have been scanning the net to find people in the same situation as myself.

I signed up for mobile broadband with Orange last Summer. I had a 3GB / month usage policy. For 3 months I used approx 2 GB / month. In the 4th month they claim I have used over 11 GB!! And they have billed me heavily for exceeding my GB limit (£415.72!).
I have argued this bill with them over the past 5-6 months. They claim it is correct, of course! I have yet to pay this bill.
It seems you have been overbilled around the same time as me. How are you getting on with your situation?
  • I have had nothing but problems with my Orange mobile broadband since I got it. I spent 6 months disputing bills with them as the orange usage calculator showed nothing near my billed usage.

I was repeatedly overcharged and the customer service was awful in that they did not seem interested in my issues at all. The billing department said I had used the billed amount, despite the dongle's software being a very poor representation of the amount used!

After months of stress, Orange agreed to refund most of the amount (over £100 I think), because they said it was basically too difficult for me to work out my usage. They also gave me an extra 2GB to ensure it wouldn't happen again.

Unfortunately, after two normal bills, today's bill sees me overcharged by £10, even though my usage calculator says I have used only 2.5GB!!! After 30m on the phone, the Orange customer services person said I needed to begin my usage calculations on 26th of every month instead of the 1st. He also stressed that the usage calculator is only 'a guide'. So, it's my fault despite my best efforts to stay under 3GB!

I am very frustrated by this, as I am not trying to exceed the 3GB allowance, I simply want to be given a fair measure of my usage so I can control it!

I really dont have 6months to argue about this again!

Has anyone else had success with this issue? I need advice!
