Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Sunday 19th July! This is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly, but if not, it's not a problem.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good

Morning OS lovelies! hi.gif
Hester - Sorry to hear about your OH and hope he feels better soon and that you manage to get some rest!
Sunnyday - Thank you honey xxx
Squiggles - Sure am!! And he turned up again yesterday so that was even nicer. I could tell he was tired though, he wasn't quite as 'with it' as the night before, so I didn't stay online so long - pretended I had a headache as I know he wouldn't have logged off otherwise!
Halight - Thank you so much for the kind comments.:D I posted on the thread on Monday and had every intention of doing so on Tuesday but time got away with me and I never caught up, hence my missing a few days.
Redruby - wow that looks gorgeous, what a fab place to take a holiday
Hilstep - big hugs.gif honey
grandmasam - so jealous of all those blackberries! I really miss picking them now I am not so mobile and my OH won't do it for me! Glad you are having a good time.
I know there are others I should have mentioned but my brain is addled from all these early starts.:rotfl::rotfl:
Tristan did tell me that the Drs have no explanation for him still being here. Still, when he was in that 10 day coma in February we all got him out of that (and I mean all; this forum lighting candles and praying for him was amazingly powerful I believe), so he could have a long time yet if prayers and just damn stubborness is a factor in survival!
OS wise we ate the remainder of the great casserole we made. (cooked in the half-price really posh pan I bought from Amazon with vouchers earned online!) My OH is back in the swing of using the BM again so the house permanently seems to smell of fresh bread, and he tells me that the tomato plants have tomatoes all over them now! However, it's been raining the last two days so I imagine the uber slugs are parachuting into my brassicas as we speak!
I hope everyone is having a good weekend.. Big ..smileyhug.gifto everyone who fancies one.

Good morning MSD; let's hope Tristan has a lot more time left.

Redruby - that holiday looks wonderful. I was brought up in Somerset and it has some of the loveliest countryside.

Well, after four months without 'real' telly, DH finally installed a satellite dish to go with the Sky box we brought with us from the UK. It's the first time he's done one, but, with my dubious 'help', it took about three hours to 'plumb' it in and about fifteen minutes to pick up the signal. The dish and all the fixings cost 118 euros - not bad when you consider that we don't have to pay a tv licence fee (well, we do, but it's included in the rates here).

OS-wise, we are out for most of the day, so I shall put a beef casserole in the slow cooker before we go out. I bought some lovely beef yesterday - it looks really tender so should cook well in the SC. I did a huge shop yesterday, so we are well stocked-up at the moment. The beef was 7 euros (about £6) and there's enough for four meals. I also bought lots of stewing lamb, really cheap, and some lovely pork chops - 6 for about 4 euros. Last night we had Toulouse sausages - they were delicious.

Well, I suppose I'd better go and put the kettle on again.

I hope you all have a great day.

Good morning Diva, Mioliere & all who follow.

I hope that Tristan is around for a long time yet too Diva :j

Mioliere All your cooking & meals are making me very hungry at this time of the morning :D I love Toulouse sausages!

We thoroughly enjoyed Harry Potter yesterday, even though a lot of detail from the book was missing. Can't wait for the last two installments now. We don't really have any plans for today apart from having a relaxed day! The weather is awful - cool & raining - it will be indoors activities.

Lunch is sandwiches & fruit and dinner is roast chicken, new potatoes and salad although I may change it to carrots & peas :p

Hugs to all that need/want one this morning, take care everyone.

Morning. Raining again. How many still want to holiday in this country despite the recession? Next week looks like more of the same.

I managed to cut some of the grass yesterday before the rains came, then watched the golf. Found a few deals in Lidl later when I dropped the kids in to town. Chicken pies £1. Pork chops 4 for £1.75, not too bad.

Out tonight to a reunion of old friends so should be a good time.

Cheers folks, have a nice day

    Morning everyone.
Was waging war with the white cabbage butterfly yesterday and I think I won that round. I went over my brassicas and found a couple of leaves with eggs on so they were removed. Have doubled over the netting a bit to try and put them off, although the more determined of them does manage to flutter through the holes. Sowed what will probably be the last of my carrots. They are so nice and yummy as baby carrots they're not really getting any bigger :o I am trying not to eat them all but I just can't help it :o
Been awake since nearly 5am. DD woke and was reluctant to go off back to sleep (despite being tired) so I had to cuddle her. Then had about 25 mins back in bed and DS wakes :( If its not one child then its the other
BM needs to go on at some point and I didn't get much housework done yesterday either as was in the garden for most of it.
Not sure about tea, probably be chicken and veg. Courgette and onion quiche I made yesterday was delish :D Shall have that again for lunch I think.

MSD - I too hope Tristan is around for a lot longer

n9eav - enjoy your night out with friends

Sunnygirl - all this talk of Harry Potter is making me desperate to see it. Will try and scrape the pennies together to see it in a few weeks time.

Have a good day everyone OS or not.

    Morning all
Up at 6 here today, so that counts as a lie in after yesterdays early start.
I was glad I did do the housework early, we had unexpected visitors who wrecked the rest of yesterdays plans for a relaxing day, by the time they'd gone I'd got a twitch & a headache!
Some good news, as part of my NVQ I had to do a 4 min talk & lead a discussion, as no one at work had time to be my audience, I talked to 3 NVQ assesors, my 4 minute talk lasted 45 mins & I've been asked if I would go back & talk to their clients, woo hoo, no payment involved, just expenses, 3 guesses what I talked about, living on a tight budget!
Today I am determined to get my sewing machine out, I have numerous items cut out ready to sew that I am itching to complete.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning peeps :hello:

Been up since 6.00 cant seem to get much sleep lately and waking really early some mornings, dont know why

Dont look good out there, bit dull bit its still early so it could change later.

Not much planned for today just a quiet one I think after the manic week we've had

Had planned to do chicken for lunch today but I forgot to get it out of the freezer last night :o and it wont thaw in time now, so I will cheat and send OH down to Sommerfield to get a cooked one, not very OS I know, but quite good value as we will get lunch from it and salad for later and depending on the size, sarnies tomorrow :D

Diva - glad you've spoken to Tristan and he is still battling, I too believe in the power of prayer

    Morning all:j:j
    I hope that evryones well.
The news is full of swine flu again this morning, There is a school by us that has two reported cases of it. And from what the papers say our area the west midlands is one of the worse affected areas in the country at the moment.. There has been quite a few schools closed in the area over the last 2 months. But the school by us that has two reported cases is still open. We have not heard any news in the last couple of days from there So i hope that the two kids are doing well and getting better.

Our twins are off the my wifes moms and dads today. So its a big tidy up and clean up for us here. The living room looks like a bomb has gone off in a toy shop:eek::D, The kicken needs tidying and claning and so dose the bathroom. and the twins room too. No even going to bother with our room at the moment as no one sees that apart from us.
So a very busy day here.

For Dinner today we will be having roast brisket with home grown roast spuds and beans. With shop brourt carrots.

Well i hope that you all have a great day everyone
    enjoy yourselfs:j:j
:jYou can have everything you wont in lfe, If you only help enough other people to get what they wont.:j

Morning Chums, up bright and early as my eldest Dd is coming to breakfast this morning. One of the things about living near to a shopping centre is you do get quite a few visitors popping in.Well case is virtually packed and not much more to do.My youngest DD asked me yesterday to knock up some thank you cards for the boys teachers and I need some inspiration.Teachers never got cards from us when I was a little girl. When we broke for the summer holidays the last people you wanted to think about were our teachers.I remember seeing one one day in Lewisham High Street and was quite amazed that she was just an 'ordinary' person getting her veggies from the market stalls. They all seemed to be God-like creatures back in my young day.You normally made yourself scarce if you saw one coming.:)
Dinner tonight at my DD's .her nails were beautiful and so pretty after her trip to the manicure shop. She is delighted with them and her DD Katie has racked up lots of brownie points for her lovely present bless her.
Well better thry to get on and think of a theme for these blooming thank you cards. My eldest DGS has got his 'A' level results and he has got two distinctions and a merit which I believe is two 'A's and a 'B'.
I am very proud of him as he has worked very hard for them. Now only have to wait until mid August for the two DGD's GCSE results.
I'm all signed up for year two of my Uni course as I have passed my first year, so we are all doing well at the moment
Right must get a wriggle on Have a good day everyone
    Cheers JackieO x

So given that I have 2 children under the age of 5 am I really supposed to keep them away from "crowds" especially since it's now the start of summer hols in a few days time
