I have been using the online service for years, infact when they first started it and even then they tried to get me to stop having paper bills and even stoped my account, but then out of the blue they tell me I can use it again but I am still keeping paper bills even though I pay it through online banking.

I'm all for paperless billing. I've used BT's service for over 2yrs, and it has much improved since then. I receive all my statments on line, bank, c/card, tel, payslips, shares, insurance, energy, car. It's just an awful waste of paper, my way of helping.

I've been paperless since I joined BT a few months ago. I finally decided to activate the online billing screens tonight. I needed the account number though. I couldn't find it, so looked at the online help which said "This is listed on your bill"!. I tried the account number on my joining letter and it said "account number invalid due to incorrect length", which I took to mean that the letters were missing.
In the end I phoned up BT and after a long process of answering security questions etc they finally told me that they couldn't tell me the number over the phone. Then I said "well, is this number on the letter correct?" and read out the numbers. "yes yes, that's the number, you just need the letters".
Eventually I worked out that the "SS" on the previous line was in fact the required pair of letters.

    Got there in the end!

Then I found that the online billing was out of synch with the real balance, so I'm going to leave it for 24 hours to sort itself out.
    Happy chappy

You might save £3 a year (from 2007), but if you needs to prove your address and end up having to pay for a paper copy of a bank statement or something for £5 then it's not very money saving. I think I would need to save at least £3 a quarter for me to consider it worth it.

There are several other ways to prove your address if you ever need too including:

recent gas or electricity, bank/credit card statement, phone bill, water bill, council tax bill, driving licence, letter confirming your state pension or other benefit, income tax statement, motor/home insurance certificate or mail order statement

If some of these are offering a discount for not receiving a paper bill - it makes sense to me to take it up as there are several other things most people could use - unless you need paper bills for claiming expenses etc

    Regards
    Sunil

Why are most of you ppl moaning about the company not passing on the savings? Its not like you can save a lot of from the bills from paper and post. Most people only need a bill to tell them how much they owe and online billing will just do the job. If you need a copy, just request for one. So just be happy and help the environment!!!
