Not sure this is a bad thing, recently left BT as they sent my bills to an address they seemed to have plucked out of the air.... then insisted that I had instructed them to do it...then refused to provide me with duplicates unless I paid over £ 3.00 each!! would not accept any responsibility and then wrote to me saying it was a computer error, then phoned me to tell me that it was a human error...I wouldnt let them 'close' the complaint in case somebody had got credit in my name , as it is, after all a utility bill... they also threatened to take me to court for the final bill , which I couldnt even check was mine.... at least with on line bills they might get it right !
Do both. Register to view your bills online but retain the 'send paper bills' option.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Hi I've been using the BT Online paper free billing service for the past 2 yrs now. I don't receive any paper bills and find the service very useful. The bills are always avilaible promptly, and the service help reduce paper. In the time i've ad he serive I have not received any marketing mailers from BT as the update is avilable online at https://www.bt.com/update. Great service and highly recommended.

I'm also on online, no paper, billing. To be honest I don't think the way they set it out is the best. You can do all kinds of things in respect of analysing your calls and creating graphs, but there is no where on the site that you can actually view a bill in the same format you would do one that comes through your door, i.e. in one place with everything on it.

In respect of the recent calls it cuts off at 10pm the previous night, whereas with 1899, 18185, etc., you can see calls an hour later. BT have got a little way to go yet. I'm sure they will get there eventually.

Thanks for all the responses,I think for the time being I`ll keep paper billing.
Like someone said when applying for different things,it`s about the only bill I get that will be accepted for proof of address.

I have a question, (I'm probably going to BT soon ..!)

I agree with the people raising concerns about having proof of address etc. but If you want to print the bill online, how does it get displayed in the browser window? Is it an exact copy of what you would get in the post (a pdf ideally) - if this is the case, then this could pass of as proof of address as it will look as 'official' as the proper bill that you get through the post.

However, if all you can do online is print a 'screenshot' of the bill details from a standard webpage, I doubt if banks and others will accept this for proof of addy.

Lost of companies are getting rid of their paper bills / statements now!

They bang on about how its better for the environment, and to be fair, its true. They don't mention anything about it will save them hundreds of thousands of pounds - and how much of this do they knock off customers bills exactly - ZERO!!

As proof of address for Cahoot,I printed off a powergen bill from online but Cahoot wouldn`t accept it as it had to be the original.

You`re right about companies saving a fortune and not passing on any savings.

I haven't looked at the online bill version for BT, but would doubt it will produce anything that will count as proof of address. Being able to get a call list in excel format has been useful when trying to split several pages of phone calls between lots of people in a student house though!

Argh, I got sent this email today. I am so mad. I view my account online a couple of times a month, but I can not loose the paper bills because I am forever sending them off as proof of address  If they are reducing the service they offer where is the reduced cost!?

I have emailed them to say I want to continue with my online account *and* getting paper bills, so I will see what they say

I was on the verge of moving to Talk Talk anyway... this might be the push I needed.
