Hels sorry to hear about the enforced cancellation - don't put off your wedding, ask the owner of the restaurant to find an alternative location (he must be covered by insurance). As others have suggested get in touch with your local paper as a short piece in the paper is bound to produce offers of help.
Good luck - hope it all works out for you.0 -
Hi Hels, just wondered if you had gotten anything sorted, how did the meeting with the owner go was he any help? Hope you don't have to postpone.Booo!!!0

Hi everyone,
Just to update you all. We've decided to postpone our wedding after trying unsuccessfully, for the last 11 days, to find an alternate venue for our wedding. We must've spoken / visited at least 40 different places from sports halls, villages halls to stately homes. I cant believe some venues either - charging 2-3 thousand just for the priviledge of sitting on their seats and wanting you to have drinks package A or B, minimum numbers, min spend on food etc...NOT at all what we wanted and so not very MSE either. I've been so stressed about it all, which was why we wanted a low key wedding with our friends and family, with fab food and wine in the first place!
The original venue have been great and are expecting to be up and running come October. (There was a lot of fire damage to the place so fingers crossed it'll be all lovely again once its all sorted.)
I've been really upset about the whole thing as you can imagine, but would like to say thank you to everyone on here for all your kind words and support.
Where would I be without you lot? :T:T:T

Sorry to hear that, but if you love the venue, I perfectly understand your reasons. Are you looking to reschedule for when they re-open? If so, what are you doing about your summery stuff?Don't worry about typing out my username - Call me COMP(Unless you know my real name - in which case, feel free to use that just to confuse people!)0

Aw Hels, that's a shame about the postponement but with venue's charging like a wounded bull in a china shop, it's likely the right way to go.
Floss is right though, your venue will now be in spectacular shape for the wedding and you've had about all the bad luck one Bride could possible have...so I'd say it will all be plain sailing from here on in.
I hope your wedding is truly enjoyable and that everything else goes to plan.

Sorry you've had to postpone, Helen. I think you've done the right thing though, you can still get married where you'd dreamed of rather than going for somewhere else and then thinking "what if". You could easily get sun in October and even if you don't your guests will all know the story so i'd go for a "summer" wedding anyway. Good luck :beer:0

Sorry to hear you had no luck with alternate venues, but unless that date was partiularly special to you (?)then I think you have done the right thing to postpone and use your chosen venue at a later date.
