Sign Online V15 is not the same as Sign Online Dual Fuel V15.

You are comparing two different tariffs.

The £63 saving is the dual fuel discount.

If I enter average usage for my area in energyhelpline I get BG websaver 3 at the top of the list, if I then go back and enter the same KWH with BG websaver 3 as my current tariff it actually shows websaver 3 with NO CHANGE at the top of the list.

I honestly cant understand what you doing to get different results??

I have been banging on for years complaining about the tactics of the comparison websites, and for that matter the sales staff of the Utility companies.

I wonder what percentage of customers use the internet facilities of comparison websites, as opposed to simply phoning?

Those customers ‘sophisticated’ enough to enter kWh on internet comparison websites, and appreciate that dual fuel is not always cheapest, will not have a problem.

I believe the majority of customers will phone and say “I pay £xx a month by DD with BG/npower/EDF etc”.
That will give the comparison firms/sales staff ‘licence to kill’ and elicit the standard response “we can reduce that payment to £yy a month”

The one and only time I have phoned a comparison site it was energyhelpline and I got asked if I knew my kwh (which I did) so not sure what your point is there as there was no way the guy on the phone could then use his "licence to kill" as you put it.

  • lol, they've changed the rates since yesterday, yesterday it came with V15,

& I did select V15 on DF as the tariff

but go figure, they still find a cheaper tariff, this is why we are in dispute with each other.

Use energyhelpline then as it doesnt happen on there.

    What I said was:

My point is that these comparison sites sole purpose(understandably) for existing is to make money from commission, and likewise their telephone staff are driven by commission.

So if they will switch someone if at all possible, and many people ringing will not have a clue what a kWh is, let alone how many of them they consume!!!

You only have to read the number of posters on this forum who seem to think that the lower the DD the cheaper the tariff!

That to a certain extent is confirmed in the evidence given to the Parliamentary Committee on Energy where it was stated that a huge percentage of customers actually switch to a more expensive tariff.

I guarantee that if you ring the comparison websites and 'act dumb' e.g, "I pay £xx to BG and don't know what tariff I am on - and whots a killerwothour" - you will get a quote of a lower DD from many operators.
  • It's not for me, I only use comparison sites as a guide for my tenants on credit meters, if they all give the same recommendation I then check the company website to get terms and confirm prices. As shown above you can get different results on a daily basis.

Though most of mine do have prepay meters. Ebico gas & BG electric.

So why would the guy I spoke to ask me for my Kwh usage before asking my DD amounts?

Surely if they were that driven by commission it wouldnt be in their interest at all to ask that?

I also got told by the guy I spoke to that he couldnt give me an exact direct debit amount as that is set by the supplier, he told me the expected annual spend based on my Kwh
