Glad to hear it went well Jo. Like you say, OH will be fine when he calms down. Yes, he MAY be disappointed. But I can pretty much guarantee that he will be disappointed in the fact you felt you couldn't tell him rather than the fact that you're drinking .

Like you said to MOB, its YOUR journey. One you yourself have to decide to make. And you've made that decision. And you know we are all behind you spurring you on!

You say deceptiveness is one of the symptoms? OH used to buy me a box of wine that was supposed to last the weekend. I would buy some of those little bottles and stash them away. When he'd pop out with piglet or to the shop or something I would pour one in a glass and pretend it was from the box. Mainly because I was scared the box would run out before the weekend was over! I dread to think how much I put away on those weekends.

    ((hugs))

Make it really hot, so hot he can't talk :D

Ah but then she won't be able to tell if he's steaming angry (steam coming out of ears, beetroot face etc) or whether he's just dying from curry!!!:rotfl:

Problem with the curry is that his preferred version is a vindaloo, whenever I make a madras I have to chop up a couple of extra hot chillies and chuck that over it

Miss P, when I used to drink openly, I'd buy 6 cans and put 3 in the fridge and replace them in the fridge as I was drinking them so he'd think I was still on the first one, as far as he was aware I'd just opened my 2nd but it was actually my 4th

As RA, Bis & GC say, it's cunning, deceptive and powerful.

You are doing amazing by the way Miss P, totally inspirational :)

 to new person Mumofboys (and to the many lurkers I'm sure are reading this thread too.)

Jo - I hope tonight goes well. I understand about the deception. I don't know if I said this before on here but a couple of years ago I would hide a bottle of spirits like vodka or gin (I don't even like gin!) in a cupboard and go and swig from it in between the cans of cider my OH was seeing me drink. It was like if people couldn't see me doing it I could pretend that it wasn't happening or summat. Makes no sense to me now.

Miss Piggy - you are doing fantastically!

I think everyone is doing so well on here.:A

115K, I've done that with wine and I don't like that either!

Yes I have my drinking ploys too, to try and fool OH that I'm not drinking quite so much.

Topping up the vodka bottle (that I've just emptied down my neck, but shouldn't have) with water, so I can leave it in the cupboard looking as if I haven't drank that much, then replacing it with more vodka the next day, is one of my tricks.

I also take advantage if my OH is tired or poorly on the couch in the lounge. I make sure she is all cosy and snugged up and the cat is on her knee, so she is less likely to get up. I then stay in the kitchen to cook/clean, so I can drink in there on my own in peace, without her frowning at me!!!

I also have a perfectly sized handbag that will easily conceal half a bottle of vodka, so I can nip in the shop on my way home and get some, without my OH knowing about it and when it is empty I can take it to work with me and dispose of it.

    Dear oh dear.

    I have done that too.:o

Jo - did you say that the alcohol worker you are having sessions with is an ex-drinker herself?

My OH and I are as bad as each other, and probably egg each other on. Every week we say we won't drink during the week, but then bad day/ good day there is always an excuse to break the embargo. Not any more. I want to go for a run on Saturday feeling good. There is my target.

    Thanks to you all.

She didn't say, but I suspect by the way she seemed to understand the complete nonsense that is my justifications that she has been a drinker!

My first counsellor years ago was lovely but it used to really p!ss me off and I'd tell him so that when they have birthdays or leaving do's in the office they probably all go down the pub after telling their 'patients' that they need to quit drinking :rotfl:
