Bells seem to have crept back over the last couple of days, had nothing Mon - Thurs, then big time bells on Fri and low irritating ones yesterday. Talking to WBF yesterday about the worzel gummage head, it happened to me last night. I sat there trying to justify going down the shop and buying beer even though I needed nothing else and decided that I'd just have some that night but would be continuing my AF journey the following day. Just the one night of drinking, that's all, just to stop the thoughts for one night, that's all . I nearly believed it, it's like the devil and the angel, the devil has gagged poor old angel and bunged her in a cupboard (no comments please) and so I can't hear her screaming at me, the only voice is the devil's one, he's got his estate agent voice on (sorry budgie), making you think you need it when you don't! How do I stop my brain from trying to trick me?
This is classic alcoholism, and this is why most of us find giving up drinking difficult.
After a period of abstinence, one thinks either they can go back to normal drinking or that a night off won't count, and they can continue to be AF the day after.
Experience shows us that this is never the case, yet we persevere with these illusions for years. Alcoholism is so deep within us we listen to it, and want to drink when it tells us to.
Of course, to anyone rational around drinker (ie not us) this is madness, and it is.
I found I had to surrender to my alcoholism, know that the first drink is the one that gets me drunk, and most importantly I do not have to act on my first thought.
So often my first thought is a selfish, dishonest one, but as long as I do not act on that it is ok.0 -

Thank you GC and I do get this, BUT how do I ignore the first thought if my brain is screaming at me telling me it's okay to do it? Don't forget the angel is gagged in the cupboard!!!DFW Nerd no. 496 - Proud to be dealing with my debts!!0 -
