The giving up/cutting down alcohol support thread! Part 4

  • Thanks Jo.
Most of the time I'm happy with my life. It's weird though how important it is for me to be perceived as "successful" - and I feel that for society that's marriage and kids.
Think that's part of my drive to drink. Like the real me - pretty shy, quiet - isn't good enough. Need to drink to be confident/bubbly/put on an act and make out like you're living the perfect life.
    Hmmmmm - I need therapy!
    xx

We are so hard on ourselves, and while most people forgive us for the bad stuff we have done, we find it most difficult to forgive ourselves.
I drank to be the person that I believed other people wanted me to be. Fun, outgoing, cheeky, interesting, etc
In reality, I am (like everyone) a fairly complex creature that is sometimes fun, sometimes withdrawn, etc.
When not drinking, I worry less what people think about me (It is NONE of my business what people think about me) and don't try as much to be someone I am not.
I know now if I create the illusion to other people that I am perfect etc, it is still the same old me on the inside - a fearful, slothful, awkward individual, that struggles finding girlfriends. However, I have positives I can concentrate on as well, and not just focus on the negatives.

Just read the last 10 pages:eek: I'd been struggling a bit before I came on here and started to feel sad for everyone else who was having a much more difficult time of it but the more I read the better it got. Thank you so much winebox, Monsieur Le Tosseur really had me laughing out loud! It looks like you're stuck with him now, couldn't even give him away!

I'll be thinking of you tomorrow Fay and Cazza, albeit for different reasons.

Great to hear from all of you tonight especially Lady Wideload (hope BHB's stopped sulking now).

Got into a minor flap tonight (just trying to be in too many places at once) which coincided with bell ringing time. Added to this OH had been to the supermarket (very unusual occurrence) and bought some of my preferred plonk. I was really weakening but although a bit edgy and grumpy I coped!

    3AF please YM

I may just manage 1 more before hols but I'm glad I've got a few days in for September, would have been all to easy to do nil points.

    Bon Soir, a bientot.
