The giving up/cutting down alcohol support thread! Part 4

cazzasmazza wrote: »Hi all,
YM please put me down for another AFD, so that's 2/27. I've got my figures right this time!
My first AA step meeting last night was fabbo. I don't know if I'm supposed to enjoy myself quite so much, but I did! Nearly didn't get there if I'm honest. Not knowing where on earth I am going or where I can park is becoming a ritual now, as I've been to 5 meetings, in 4 different venues!
The weather last night was horrendous, windy and torrential rain. I parked in totally the wrong place, walked for ages to find the venue, then discovered there was a car park much closer, so in my wisdom I walked all the way back, got my car and re-parked (I didn't fancy a long walk back to the car on my own in the dark after the meeting you see). So I was a few mins late for the meeting, out of breath and soaking wet!
But the meeting was great - everyone very welcoming as usual. The chap who was doing the main share was incredible, he's been clean and sober for over 9 years. His story was heartbreaking but he came out the other side, not without a good deal of bumps and failures along the way, but that's alcohol's way isn't it - we all know how much it affects us and how it fights against our wishes to stop drinking.
OOOHHH, what an epic, sorry folks, how bored you must be! I keep banging on about AA don't I. It's because I feel inspired and I don't feel lost any more. I have support, program for recovery and goals. I feel like a burden has been lifted already. It's good to feel that I have a choice to recover. I felt like it was an impossible task, less than a month ago.
Well done to everyone who was AF yesterday too.
And well done to Miss P on more weight loss! :T I scoffed a large chicken kebab last night, so I won't be dropping the poundage any time soon..............:p
Hugs to all. Have a lovely day and good luck staying AF.

Talking of whichFay (The Willow Oracle)- when do I cut my willow sticks to plant some new ones ? Ta in advance

Ideally in the wintertime just before spring - before budbreak - ideally with us its March?April - with you it might be earlier - as the best cuttings are from seasoned hard wood (20-25cm long, 10-20mm diameter) which has gone through a winter and the cuttings prefer to be planted before the onset of spring.
You coming to my sceince festival talk tomorrow or signing up for my winter evening class?:DTotal debt 26/4/18 <£1925 we were getting there.
Total debt as of 28/4/19 £7867.38:eek:

Does anyone have any 'tricks' (For want of a better word) to use for when they get tempted to drink? Since the weekend, the thought of drinking hasn't even crossed my mind.....yet, but i fear that i may go the same route as i did last time. I stopped for 19 days in August and then just crumbled without even being put under any major pressure to drink. I know it's me that pours the drink down my throat and you have to be strong to stop, but is there anything that people find useful when they start thinking of having a drink? I can't get on here from home otherwise that would be the thing i'd do straight away. I know i should remind myself of all the bad things i do / have done when i drink but i seem to be very good at blocking these things out when i want a drink.
Sorry if that's all a bit waffley, i hope my point isn't lost amongst it.

Hi Sam.....not sure if this will help anybody at all but I tend to find that an energy drink seems to do the trick for me...( red bull or supermarket equiv is much cheaper). A small can does about 2 wine glasses & gives you a bit of a buzz too. if I go to the pub then I tend to have that as an alternative to an alcoholic drink.
Its probably just as bad a the wine (I don`t know) but you just cant drink that much of it.
Just a thought...it works for me.
