I've not even got through the 2nd AF day/night yet but I'm feeling carp! Surely it's not withdrawal symptoms. Feel achy and anxious and for some reason really tired.

    Maybe it's something else.....

Don't be hard on yourself, Gromit :) You said earlier that yesterday was your first AFD in a long time & that's an achievement in itself, plus you didn't sleep well & had that interview. These are all stressful things so it's no surprise you're not feeling good

  • Hi Gromit, try to work through the feeling yuk and tired. If you read back through my first few posts during my first week of staying sober (and it has been a LONG time since I was sober for several consecutive days) I felt exactly as you are describing now.

I didn't have the shakes or anything but your body is still going through some changes, not having the alcohol and sugars and chemical changes via alcohol it has got used to. Also, I got some invaluable advice from Graeme, who said that when we drink, we lose awareness of how our body is actually feeling, so when we stop drinking and start to "feel" our bodies again and what our bodies are telling us, it hurts!!

I felt exhausted all the time, I got headaches, I was emotional and very teary and irritable, for the first few days I admit it was pretty awful, but I am coming out the other side now and I'm on my 10th AFD today and I feel 100% better.

Not fantastic yet, but soooo much better. It's nice to actually be able to listen to my body for a change, rather than ignoring it and masking what it was trying to tell me with booze.

So try to stick with it. Keep your sugar levels up. Keep hydrated. Eat well. It's definitely worth it.

    Hugs,
    Caz

honeybear is a night-time lightweight :( Need downtime away from my laptop then sleep.

No AF-ness for me today or next few days but no-one can take yesterday away from me at least :)

Catch you all soon - much love & hugs

  • Fab advice there from Caz :T

40sm~sounds like me. After DS1 was born I was the thinnest I had ever been  Not so much with DS2 but I have piled on the pounds since he was born. Probably about a stone  I'm 5ft 6 and around 9st 10. VERY flabby round the middle though and I DO NOT like it.

Would have been around here sooner, but found myself on Facebook once the boys were in bed. It's so lovely catching up with people. I have friends dotted around the whole country and family in the US. They've all found me and are chatting away. Keeps me away from the wine because I get so pre-occupied with it.

Have planned a reunion of sorts this weekend and it wouldn't have happened without FB. It's a lunchtime thing, so no drinkies. Phew!

Off to watch Location, Location that I've Sky+ :D

    Much love X

PS: (whispering to Miss P...I've done 4 AF not 3 and I'm on my 5th) Thank you X
    Need to start again :o

Hmm...I can hear my body clearly for this first time in years and it's telling me I need an eye test, a hearing test and possibly a hip replacement. Oh dear!

It is better AF though - when my alarm used to go off I'd lie there with my eyes clenched firmly shut thinking on a scale of 1-10 just how bad is this hangover going to be today?

Horrible for the first thought that goes through your head once you're up to be - I just want this day to be over and to be back in bed. Almost like wishing your life away, except it's wasting your life really.

Hope everyone's ok. Off to read in bed.

    xx
  • PS Really, really, really, really wanted a glass of red wine tonight, but made do with AF beer. The wine cravings are getting stronger again though...might investigate Kudzu at the weekend.
