illegally parked mobile video unit

You have no evidence of the vehicle being parked illegally.
If you get a couple of stills, the camera spec & vehicle spec I should imagine it would be actually very easy to prove the position of a vehicle.
In fact I would be suprised if you couldnt do it from the stills & the info on them alone. Not Again0 -
Possibly but we are talking CSI and Petrocelli here and that sort of justice costs...1984ReturnsForReal wrote: »If you get a couple of stills, the camera spec & vehicle spec I should imagine it would be actually very easy to prove the position of a vehicle.

An amatuer photographer should be able to do it & if the pic has a distance measure (which it should do if it calculates speed) on it almost anyone with basic maths or physics experience should be able to do it. Its just a points on a picture & a focal point.
In fact 3 or 4 lengths of string & a measuring tape should do it.
They couldnt argue with it. Its a simple, basic calculation.
It wouldnt be expensive & not technical at all. Its schoolboy stuff.
Whether its a defense or not, I doubt it.....
But at least they would have to start ticketing themselves..Not Again0 -
In Holland they have speed cameras hidden in wheelie bins...0

The legality of the way the camera vehicle is parked does not affect the case against you. You cannot use it as a defence unless the images recorded of you are not in accordance with ACPO guidelines.
However if that van parks there regularly, please do return and take pictures of it. You should also knock on the door and ask the operator why (s)he is doing this.
By the way, unless there are double yellows, or a clearway sign...0 -

It's human nature to try and get out of everything that we manage to get ourselves into! I don't think there's too many people who wouldn't try and get out of getting points for a few miles over the speed limit.
How far you go with it... Now that's another matter!Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0 -

Or is parked illegally in the sense that if a member of the public was to park in the same location they would be reported for an offence. Are the photos that are obtained by the mobile unit admissable in court as they were obtained through an illegal act
The police have an exemption to park wherever they like in carrying out their duties.
Safety Camera Partnerships are Civil Staff and not police, but I suspect when the police and partnership came to agree sites to be targeted, position of vans should have been discussed at a site inspection and agreed, thus potentially covering them.0
